Help making custom portraits
This thread is for help with custom portraits.

There are two portraits "portrait.dds" and "portrait_large.dds". "portrait_large.dds" is only seen in the equipment customization screen and must be 536x464. "portrait.dds" is shown next to the trooper's name and must be 80x80 (circle with a diameter 80 pixels). All portraits must be vertically inverted and saved as "BC2 (linear,DXT3)" dds files.

Add your texture's path to "DoorKickers2\data\units\human_identities.xml"

Note: I'm using "paint.net" for .dds files and "Notepad++" for .xml files

Original topic:
So all the default portraits are inverted vertically, this is due to the way OpenGL handles dds files as explained in another discussion. So I tried making a custom portrait
in Paint.net by inverting my image the same as the dds files in game, and it worked, it's right side up in game. My problem is that the transparent parts of the small portrait appear black in game. Is there a way, on my end, to fix this?

To elaborate, here's a screenshot showing the problem

The custom portrait is the same size as the premade ones, has transparency, etc.

Ok I've paged our art director to come to the rescue :)

I put my portrait in the layers that said "put your portrait here" and I had to flatten the psd to make it a dds. Once done, it looks the same as my normal dds file and the game still has a black square behind it.

For those more inclined to Paint.net like me, I made a visible 'Crop Circle' for the small portraits to be sure you don't go outside the lines.

using paint.net will make the rest not a transparent surface but a emtpy one showing it black in the game i personally prefer gimp to edit the imagine files here anyway

Oh, that could be the problem. I'll see if it works in GIMP and get back to you.

I found a fix. When saving the dds file in Paint.net, set it to "BC2 (Linear, DXT3)" in the save settings.

That works, awesome!

The character's name is Peanut, and so was the generated trooper, so I figured I'd make her first.
