Steam won't download any subscribed mod
After finally managing to play the game smoothly by shutting down a pesky background program, I decided to start fresh with a minimal mod setup.

I wiped out the old mod folder, unsubscribed from all workshop items, and carefully selected a handful of mods to subscribe to. However, despite seeing them listed under "Extensions" in-game, none of the mods seem to actually work. It's like they're there, but not really doing anything. What gives?

Verified the game files - nothing.
Re-downloaded the game - much of the same.
I opened Big Picture mode - also no result.
Download cache cleared - guess what?

Other mods from other games do load.

What am I doing wrong?

Addendum: it won't even create an appworkshop_ file.

Feel free to enlighten me, if there's a solution you know of.

It may be that the mods are out of date? are you sure they don't work? do a simple mod like tater trader to see if you get the modded trade order's OK, in game, with a hauler, you should have new tater trader command.

FYI that's how they seem to work for X4, steam seems to do nothing but they appear in your extensions you will notice a small window on first startup, after installing a bunch off mods, I mean you may not even notice it or even if you blink you may miss it.

That's when X4 seems to do its actual downloading and installing mods but they are so small its done in tenth's off seconds.

Its a lot more noticeable with large mods as the first startup with that extensions window I speak off will be shown a lot longer, mod's like Star Wars Interworlds for e.g.

None works. I randomly subscribed mods to see if they load - nothing.

O kb. All of them. Mods I used. Mods I tested. Nothing changes.

Well there is always the manual way, basically just downloading them from the X4 forum and the website called Nexus, you simply drop the extracted folder into your extensions folder in the games directory and done, they appear in your extensions, in game.

That's how I was doing it for years up until yesterday, now I use a mix of both steam workshop and manual downloading.

The reason I still use those sites manually is because not everything I like is actually on the steam workshop.

Mods like NPC interactions from Nexus or Star Wars Interworlds from its own website / discord.
