Marine Gas Masks
I've been thinking of ways to make the two teams more balanced, and came up with the idea of gas masks for Marines. They would cost 10 resource points and block all damage from Lerk spores. Please consider this, I think it would be a good idea.

Why not just buy a flamethrower and burn the spores?

Gas masks + suits would protect against spores and bilebombs, it's a nice idea.

I said something about this in-game last week. Really, what I said was how it was funny they can teleport across long distances but they can't figure out a f**ing gas mask.

It could be a good idea but I'm not sure how it would change the balance overall i.e. it would make the lerk pretty useless in many respects.

i normally play lerk and the spores are pretty much a form of harrassment i dont plan on killing with spores just forcing the marines to go to another area or trap them somewhere so my team can take care of them

Flamethrowers already counter spores..

There are already gas masks in NS2. They're called Exos.

Yeah, but some kind of solution for light soldiers and it's applications are very interesting.

You'd spend 10 res on a gas mask instead of a jetpack only to find there are no Lerks, and if there if there is one (rarely more) they usually don't have spores evolved/ researched.

Ok guys, i've been reading the comments and decided to brainstorm on this a little. Instead of just gas masks, they would be some type of faceplate with not only gas masks, but advanced visors that can detect camoflaged aliens. Let me know if you like this idea. Thanks!

Sounds cool, a bit like having alien vision.

Marines don't need direct counters to alien genetic upgrade traits, ops can already scan for cloaked aliens, and you can move out of spores

Ok then, say your commander was too busy at the moment to scan the area, or your observatory was destroyed. Or maybe you just couldn't get out of the way of the spores (like in a vent). In situations like these, these facemasks would be essential.
