I'm using Win XP. Also I have change the default folders for My documents to my secondray HDD (using the basic Window functionality for this, nothing fancy) Perhaps it's why the game can't find it ?
How is the folder for Space defenders supposed o be called ? I could do a search on my HDD to see if the game put in somewhere else than my Document folder ...
The game uses an abstracted call to grab whatever the user's documents folder is, so whatever target it's looking for might:
1) Not exist, OR
2) Not have the right permissions
In a future patch I could fix this by letting you explicitly set your mod directory.
Also tried to create a Users\... folders with no luck (didn't reboot after each change, though, just close/launch the game ...)
Also, when I click on the Config folder icon in the game it brings me to "C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Application Data\DefendersQuest\Local Store"
Here I can find three folder corresponding to the three mod I did (including the two test one which I had deleted ..) but all those folder only contain the config.xml and the three save slot and they still don't appear when clicking on 'My mods' ... :/
Please don't say I have to switch to Windows 7/8 lol XD
Anyway I can't seem to find the Space Defenders folder ... Is there a way to know where Steam d/l it ?
The mod directory, at least on my computer, will be here:
C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\Documents\DefendersQuest\mods
That's where Steam will try to download it (of course I'm running Windows 7). What are you running? There's no reason you should have to upgrade to get this to work.
If it's just a brick wall for you, my advice would be to wait for my next patch, where I'll try to add a user-settable directory for mods, so you can set it to anything that happens to work.
Also the profile I use have administrator right in case it matters ...
Doesn't work by launching the game directly from teh .exe instead of using Steam shortcut.
I guess I will wait for next patch then ... But it still won't solve the Space Defenders issue since I can't seem to find it anywhere ... It's supposed to be d/led in the mods folders, right ?
OS: Windows XP Pro SP3
game version: STEAM 1.0.88
mods directory: C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\DefendersQuest\mods\
game install directory: D:\bin\Steam\steamapps\common\DefendersQuest\
Steam overlay does appear in-game when I press the key combination for that
I just tried creating a data-only mod to ensure the mod directory is correct; it did create a new mod in the above-listed mods directory. (There was also a mod I created a few months ago in the mods directory.)
Here is what happens after clicking each option in the "M" button.
Browse Steam Workshop - nothing appears to happen
My Mods - scroll shown with nothing listed (neither the mod previous created nor the one just created)
Create new Mod (Data Only) - new mod files were created in mods directory (worked properly)
Install from ZIP - Windows file selector appeared (assuming worked properly)
After subscribing to one or both currently-available mods from outside the game in the Steam Workshop, the Steam client does display that it downloaded something, but I don't see it in the mods directory. I've tried unsubscribing and resubscribing, both in-game and in the Steam client while not running the game.
I tried renaming the already-exiting mods directory to hide it, but the game did re-create a new modes directory in the same location as the old one. I didn't see any obvious file access problems when using Process Monitor (by Sysinternals). I tried restarting the Steam client.
After using the in-game option to "Install from ZIP" for each zip file, the file was extracted to the same location as my own mod.
However, using "My Mods" still resulted in a blank list.
I had same problem like you.

I thought it was only my pc's problem and almost forgive it...
As an added wrinkle, the mods I downloaded through the Workshop have the correct file structure when installed, but the ones I downloaded from the DQ forums have 0kb files with the same name where folders should be. They are for older versions of the game, but I'm not sure that's what's causing this.
I have Steam installed to F:\Steam. Like ST•N'fol, Talis Cat and x4, I'm running Windows XP.
In both 1.0.88 and 1.0.90, after selecting "My Mods" and the "Okay" button, a scroll with no items is displayed. Pressing the "Back" button shows the Options menu.
When the "Steam Workshop" radio button is selected, and the new "Web Browser" checkbox is unchecked, still nothing happens when pressing the "Okay" button. When the "Web Browser" checkbox is checked, pressing the "Okay" button loads the Steam workshop page in my default web browser.
Interestingly, it is no longer possible to even create a mod. The current release version, 1.0.88 allowed the creation of a new mod by exporting the various files. With this beta, 1.0.90, selecting "Create new Mod" then the "Okay" button closes the "Modifications" dialog to show the save selection screen, but nothing respondes to keyboard or mouse control; the game has to be closed by pressing Alt+F4 . I tried this in both full screen and windowed mode.
