I also second Regalia's comment. Feels more realistic and makes more sense.
First, Sugar Maple currently needs a saw mill. The problem is that maple syrup is made by tapping and draining sap from the trees, not cutting them down - you're not using these trees for lumber. A plantation makes more sense here, as it's a luxury food item that's primarily valued for taste, not nutrition. Plantations being primarily gold seems to fit better than the production boost from a mill.
I'm also not really sure about tomatoes, berries, and dates being plantation crops rather than farms. Tomatoes and berries at least are more about rounding out people's food sources than providing novel/exotic tastes. I wouldn't consider tomato sauce to be a cash crop like cotton, tea, or tobacco.
