Description
What's KSE? Why, Kerbal Space Engineers of course!

Adds several types of parts meant for building realistic rockets.
Currently includes Explosive Bolts, protective Fairings, Solid Rocket Boosters, Ring Decouplers, and Heat Shields.

This mod is WIP, and under active development. Expect features to change and be added.

NOTE - Explosive bolts and SRBs require both block damage and weapons to be enabled.


Explosive Bolts:
Explosive Bolts are used as a low-profile way to separate boosters or stages. Detonate them by using the “Shoot Once” option. They cause minor deformation to surrounding armor, but do no damage.

- Large and small 1x1 Explosive Bolts
- A slim Explosive Bolt “pillar”, plus an offset pillar version for large and small grid
- A 3x3 square small-grid Explosive Bolt
- 3x3 to 11x11 circular Explosive Bolts for large and small grid


Fairings
Fairings come in quarter sections, to allow them to split open and fall away once detached

- 3x3 to 15x15 straight fairing sections
- 3-5 to 13-15 fairing adaptors for changing widths
- Inverted adaptors for easier upside-down placement


Nosecones
Decorative nosecones in two angle variants
- 1x1 to 11x11 Short and Long nosecones


Solid Rocket Boosters
Single-use, light-and-forget booster rockets with high output and a one-minute burn time, good for breaking atmosphere. Ignite by using the “Shoot Once” option. Fueled by explosives components installed in the block – can be recovered and reused, but new fuel must be installed.
NOTE - SRBs apply force to the location of the block, not to the grid's center of mass. Ensure symmetrical placement for best results.

- Small grid Light SRB: Provides thrust equivalent to 3 small-grid large hydrogen thrusters.
- Large grid Light SRB: Provides thrust equivalent to 1 large-grid large hydrogen thruster.

- Small grid Heavy SRB: Provides thrust equivalent to 9 small-grid large hydrogen thrusters.
- Large grid Heavy SRB: Provides thrust equivalent to 3 large-grid large hydrogen thrusters.

All SRBs have a version with and without a nosecone, as well as an "XL" variant with double the burn time


Ring Cylindrical Decouplers
A re-attachable alternative to explosive bolts. Allow thrusters to be fired through their centers without harm. Hollow ring decouplers have been temporarily removed until I can find a workaround for the remerge problems

- 3x3 to 11x11 Cylindrical Decouplers for large and small grid


Heat Shields
Protects your craft from the heat of takeoff and reentry. Made from lightweight but durable ceramics. Compatible with Deadly Reentry; will correctly protect blocks behind it from heat - until it ablates and is destroyed

- 3x3 to 11x11 Heat Shields for large and small grids


Round Oxygen Generator
- 3x3x2 Round O2 Generator, same stats as vanilla


Separator Motors
Micro-sized SRBs designed to push separated stages away from your main craft.
Very light thrust force, 4-second burn time
NOTE - a power source on the disconnected stage is required for proper operation


Low-Profile Battery
Small-capacity power cell in a small package, good for powering low-draw systems and providing keep-alive power


Known Issues
- Ring Decouplers do not reattach correctly; this is a bug with how Keen's merge block code interacts with merge blocks with custom collision models. Ring Decouplers have been replaced by non-hollow Cylindrical Decouplers until such time as this bug is fixed or I can work around it.

I found the Orion Drive Fuel, how do I use it?
Currently been trying to use a combination of the Nuke Mod and the Invincible Block with varying results and massive craters.
If you modify a SM & LG Rocket Launcher Block to fire this ammunition or make it loadable into one, I could most likely fire upwards into a sail rather than timed to fall through a hole in the push-plate.
With the Structural Reinforcement Mod or just using the Invincible Block again, this could be an easier way to gain interplanetary velocities.

this mod causes my game to crash to desktop when pasting a small grid that contains a railgun into the world. can anyone try to replicate this on their system?

also can't build directly on the top of the rockets, i always have to put blocks up the sides to build over the tops.

really good mod besides those two issues.

Oh also make sure you shoot ONCE. Set them to continuous shoot and weird things happen. The rockets also produce thrust realistically, so if you have a single SRB off to one side I hope you like going in circles!

the SRBs and bolts work fine still, didn't test the farings. With and without weaponcore. Decouplers work as unmodded merge blocks

i feel like the srbs have way too crazy of thrust. i used 4 and it sent my ship going 4000 m/s before i broke atmosphere. guess i should probably not use lightspeed with this mod
