MSV Post

Description

The MSV Post is a fictional Multi-Purpose Vessel, loosely based on the UK's buoy tender 'Patricia'.

The hull of the ship comes from content creator Cororin, you can find it over here. However, I changed a lot of his shape as well.

By design, the ship requires a bit of work to operate. There are no centralized controls - at least for the most part - so you have to walk around the ship quite a bit to get things going.

Many aspects of the ship were inspired by the jaw-dropping work of GERUNIMO. If you haven't seen his RV Calypso, you MUST check it out!

Apart from this, everything you find in this ship is my own creation and it took many hours of work to get everything to work.

Despite her size, the MSV Post is a fast ship. She can achieve 32 knots in calm seas and with the four big fuel bunkers, she's got quite some range too. Because of her size, she can be utilized for most missions. One exception are fire-fighting missions, as she's missing a water canon in her current configuration. The original idea behind her was to use her to lay some buoys - to mark shallow waters for other vessels and with the gigantic cargo hold, she's more than capable for that mission too.

1. When first entering the MSV Post, first head down below to the engine room and engage the two main fuel pumps.
2. Make sure that the fuel valves either for the main or the reserve tanks are open. By default, the main valves should already be open.

3. In the aft section of the engine room you can find the compressor opposite of the auxiliary generator. Turn on the compressor and wait until the pressure reaches 13-15 psi.
4. Open the starter valves of one of the engines until the engine starts up.
5. Close the valve, wait until the air pressure recovered and repeat process for the second engine.
6. Turn off the compressor.

7. Engage the two coolant pumps.

This is it. You should be ready to go now!

The two main engines produce enough electricity while underway. But you can engage the auxiliary generator if you plan on anchoring for a prolonged period of time.

1. Open the fuel valve (it's easy to miss, so don't forget!)
2. Flip the main generator switch on the control panel and wait until the engine rpm settles.
3. cut-in the generator by closing the generator breaker on the electrical panel.

Welcome to the bridge!

The bridge is mostly self-explanatory. You can use the gear switches or hotkeys 1+2 to change gears. The throttle won't stall the engine, at '0' it simply disengages the main clutch.

The bow and stern thrusters are a bit under-powered, but they should get the job done if you're patient.

The two cranes and the main winch run on hydraulic pressure. To operate this equipment, make sure that the hydraulic pump is turned on.

You can find the pump in the steering gear compartment, aft of the ship.

Below decks, you'll find the hydraulic pump. Turn it on to maintain 110-150 psi.

This will allow you to use the main crane, the winch, the auxiliary crane on the trawl deck. In addition, the hydraulic pressure is required if you need to lower the two masts of the ship.

The MSV Post is equipped with a fresh water generator to provide enough water for long-duration operations. You can find the equipment in the bow section of the ship. Use the hatches in the forecastle to reach the fresh water equipment on the most lower deck.

Ensure that the main fresh water valve is open to supply the ship. Engage the salt water pump to fill the fresh water generator.

Turn on the fresh water generator. The fresh water will be pumped directly into the fresh water supply tank.

For arctic operations, heating is provided by means of a hot water boiler and a central heating unit. The machinery is found one deck above the water tank. Turn on the boiler to provide heat to all living quarters in the ship.

There are multiple maintenance hatches in the engine room, and other parts of the ship, that give access to various ship's components if needed.

The MSV Post doesn't like rough weather. Due to her size and a rather high center of gravity, she's prone to listing in strong cross winds, which also makes her hard to steer. Better sit out any rough seas... Then again, I know you won't.

The helicopter deck is still work in progress. There's no latches and it looks a bit plain at the moment. I might get to it later.

The helicopter deck is now fully functional. It has a hinge connector that can be raised by 1 block to tie down crafts like the V3 'Gatty'. There's a charging station as well as a fuel pump to get Diesel into the heli. The refuelling station feeds from the port reserve tank of the ship.

If you experience flooding, you have to deal with it manually! The flooding panel on the bridge will give you an indication which compartments are being flooded.
Water in the aft cargo hatch is slowly drained to the bilge of the steering gear compartment, there's a shut-off valve to prevent the water from draining.
Water in the steering gear compartment is drained into the bilge of the engine room and you can find a shut-off valve in the same compartment.
The main bilge pump of the engine room is operated by a control panel on the forward firewall. The master breaker for the pumps is in the forward maintenance hatch.
There's a bilge pump in the main cargo hold, connected to the cargo holds main breaker (cargo deck, at the base of the boom).
Another pump with breaker and control panel is located in the bow section of the ship, next to the fresh-water equipment.
Update v.3There's now standby-batteries in many compartments of the ship. If you ever run out of power and get stuck in a room, flick the switch to the closest standby battery and you should be fine.
There's now a fuel-balancing panel in the engine room. You can switch on "auto-balancing" or manually pump fuel from port to starboard or vice-versa.

There's still a bit of detailing missing, equipment for the kitchen and a workshop in the forecastle. Stay tuned for an update.

I also noticed that I forgot to hook up the bilge pumps of the keel compartment, I'll do that at a later time. But you'd be in deeeeeep trouble if you get water in there anyway. fixed

Anything else?
Please let me know in the comments if something is not working for you, or if you have any suggestions how to make the MSV Post better!

Do whatever you want with this ship and it's components. Modify it, change it, re-purpose it, copy the microcontrollers and upload it all on the workshop. If you find a way to make this ship better, I want to see it! A heads-up would be nice, because I'd love to check out what you do with this creation.

Go nuts! Have fun!

Good old MS Post, this ship is the reason I bought this game back in 2019.
Thanks for the memories.
