Arsonist Class For LWOTC

Description
Here to join your barracks, the other class that was alluded to in my Dark Events mod and the first Chemthrower-focused class made specially for Long War of the Chosen, the Arsonist! Check out the main class tree here[docs.google.com], which includes notes on the one new ability the Arsonist has. As the Arsonist is set up for LWOTC, they have a 4-tier XCOM row as well as the pistol row (which you may actually get good use of on this class) in addition to their three main ability rows. They equip a Chemthrower as their primary weapon, and a Canister as their secondary.

The Arsonist starts with the Chemthrower Suppression and Roving Chemist abilities at Squaddie rank, and has 3 specializations in their main ability tree. (They also stand out from most other LWOTC classes in that they gain an extra point of Mobility at Squaddie.)
  • Scorched Earth is about spreading fire far and wide, through many AoE abilities and abilities that let you attack more often. This is the best row for handling the Lost or swarms of Chryssalids, as well as ambushing pods at the start of a mission.

  • Slaughter is your big damage setup. More than just increasing the output of your Chemthrowers' upfront damage and damage over time, it's also the best specialization for supplementing your loadout with a pistol thanks to abilities like Center Mass and Heavy Hitter, making it the least likely specialization to get stonewalled by fire immunity.

  • Intensity is a straightforward refinement tree that allows you to double down on the Arsonist's strengths. Emphasis here is on mobility and impairing enemies via panic, blind or disorienting.

Mod Requirements
  • In addition to the requirements listed on the side, Long War of the Chosen is required.[www.nexusmods.com] You could repurpose the Arsonist for use with regular WOTC, but that would at the minimum require the LW2 Classes and Perks mod, plus a lot of restructuring of the classdata to swap out the LWOTC versions of skills with the LW2 Classes and Perks versions. This is entirely possible to do even without ModBuddy (just config edits), so don't ask me to do it for you.

  • While not at all a hard requirement, I highly recommend Mod Jam if you're a LWOTC player. This will integrate Chemthrowers in a way that fits in better with LWOTC (such as making the Immolators and most Canisters single-build items and doing away with random reward deck upgrades from the Proving Grounds, opting to make each one buildable in Engineering individually instead).

  • There should be no conflicts to speak of.

Is it possible to unequip the blast canister so I can use the psionic reaper? Using the main modlist for LWOTC btw

Hotshot (Quickburn) only gives a movement action, it's not free like Quickburn on a Technical. Why would that be?

Playing Mod Jam LWOTC - just got my Arsonist to Gunnery Sergeant and the Hotshot ability's Quickburn doesn't work. I've tested chemthrower attacks with a Superior Xenolator and the Fumigate ability - both actions are not triggering the free action from Quickburn. Is this a known issue?
I'll have to go back and test this a bit more if it's Mod Jam or something else

Unfortunately, annoyingly weak class, and not a great fun to play. First reaction on missed flamethrower shot: "Whhaattt!...".
Also there's a bug: using Blast Canister does not have any animation nor sound. hp points just silently subtracted from the enemy.

I hate that the canister uses the button 2 instead of the overwatch. It's really annoying

To clarify: Shadow Ops does disable classes from LW classes and perks pack, not from LWotC. But if you still don't want to use it you will have to edit this mods' XComClassData.ini config file to replace perks that require Shadow Ops.

Is there a way to use this without having the shadow ops perks pack? I don't like how those disable the LW classes.

Yeah, I figured out the chemthrower suppression thing. The class still sucks. DOT of 2-3 damage just blows, assuming you can get more than one shot in. The only way this class makes any sense is if when you shoot, your shots go through all cover, all the time, 100%. Anything less and this class is pretty worthless at commander difficulty and higher. Taking this class will sabotage the rest of your team. There are other flamethrower classes out there, the one for the SPARK is pretty good, I just wish they worked for LWOTC.

Tip. If you want to guarantee that enemies in cover get set on fire, use chemthrower supression. It won't dodirect damage (until the target moves at least) but it will apply burn to every enemy in the cone.
