Why?



CK3 is based on characters and their dynasties. Characters can form interesting and complex relationships between each other, but they tend to be ephemeral; once they die that relationship is completely forgotten. The absence of any meaningful relationship between dynasties prevents the opportunity to create interesting stories and long-term consequences spanning multiple lifetimes.

What is it?



Dynastic Relations is a mod that aims to fill this gap, by introducing dynasty-level opinions that are affected by actions between dynasty members. The dynastic relationship will affect how the dynasties think of each other, ranging from friendly to rivalry. Friendly dynasties are more likely to help each other in times of need, and to accept marriages between their members, while rival dynasties will want to defend their dynasty’s honor by scheming and fighting against their rivals.

The Dynastic Relation measures how two dynasties think of each other. It ranges from -70 to +70 and it primarily affects the opinion between every member of both dynasties.

Dynastic relations can be improved by many actions between members of different dynasties, including marriages, granting titles, etc. It will be negatively impacted by declaring wars, revoking titles, executing prisoners, etc.

Over time, it will decay (0.5/year) towards the baseline (0).

Once a Dynastic relation reaches +50, both dynasties will become friends, increasing the positive impact on the opinion between its members. In addition, the dynasty heads of friendly dynasties will always be friends. Conversely, once it reaches -50, the dynasties will become rivals, increasing the negative impact on the opinion between its members. In addition, the dynasty head of rival dynasties will always be rivals.

This mod changes the following GUI files:
  • window_dynasty_house.gui

In addition, it overrides the following GUI templates:
  • vbox_marriage_interaction_marriage_details
  • coa_house_big

  • Joining a war now degrades the dynastic relation with the primary defender/attacker depending on the joiner being an attacker/defender
  • Improved character window and dynasty view GUI to be immediately updated when a dynastic relation changes

It was. I tried maintaining it within the Super Compatch but it needed some GUI work.
