Train Parts [BETA]

Description
EXAMPLE WORLD: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2860384282

Instructions

- Have 3 blocks inbetween the suspension for the right width for tracks

- SET THE TRAIN WHEEL SUSPENSIONS TO 25% FRICTION FOR OPTIMUM USE ON RAILS.

- Set the strength quite low but high enough that it doesnt droop much when stationary.

- You may need to do a lot more tweaking depending on the build.

- Place it on the tracks and go!!!

Additional Info

- Very light trains may have grip issues (similar to IRL).

- Having your bogie on a rotor to rotate the suspension set helps a lot on curved tracks.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Greetings, I like trains but they are annoying to make in vanilla. I started this mod with the hope that I could make wheels stay on the track like they do IRL without requiring a rollercoaster style wheel spam setup.
These wheels are designed to work with the track blocks in the mod. They are near unusable on voxels. To make up for this they have more pulling strength and less power use than normal wheels.
I recommend a low strength to absorb small bumps you might get when on a track.
Features
- 4 variants of small grid 3x3 train wheel suspensions.
- 4 straight tracks (15, 10, 5 and 1 block long versions)
Preset curved tracks are not viable, but a train track hinge that meshes nicely with the straight track for easier curve-making will most likely come in the future. For now you'll need to do it manually.
I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, SET THE TRAIN WHEEL SUSPENSIONS TO ~25% FRICTION FOR OPTIMUM USE ON RAILS.
These aren't magic and your train might still derail at very high speeds. This is [BETA] for a reason.
Currently no build states, ill get to it eventually.
I really hope you continue development of this mod, I am currently using it in conjunction with WHIPS Subgrid Wheel Controller Script and I love it. So far no issues, but have only just started creating a new train world around this mod.
Suggestion for the future IF and only IF you feel up to it, but a few variations of steam engine locomotion trucks, that would tickle my fancy so much. You do awesome work!
I like trains.
The track gauge is too broad. Trains can fall off 1 of the rails whille standing on the other rail, something like falling down in between the rails.
(it also goes without saying that this is an amazing mod I hope to include in my 'must haves' one day.)
Request:
Single rail blocks. Not in the vein of a monorail, but rather, just 1/2 of the rails that are already in the mod. I'm trying to handle corners using stationary sub-grids rotated 15 degrees to once side or another. Naturally the rails fail to meet up smoothly. However, I think a 1x1x1 rail block that's only the left or the right rail would, in combination with precision placement, allow me to create functional corners.
Pros:
*when it works its really nice.
*Smooth acceleration, and decent braking.
cons:
*Its a little too hard to place cars on the tracks.
*Its a little too easy to get a car stuck in a straight track.
Thoughts: I think the wheels themselves need to be reshaped a little. Its quite hard to place a car on the tracks and have both wheels land on the tracks themselves. Usually (for me) one side falls a little lower than the other and the car comes to rest, tilted to the left or the right.
When I do, It's nice until I come to a stop. Its less that I stopped, and more that I got stuck in the middle of a 15m piece of track. Seemingly on nothing. My hunch is that the wheels are sliding off.
(I set the friction to 25%. I places the suspensions 3 blocks apart.)
