Real Sonar LITE (Obsolete - Read Description)

Description
An official lightweight version of the Real Sonar mod.

Warning: This mod (still) contains some loud sounds. If you are sensitive to high-frequency sounds, do not use this mod.

IMPORTANT UPDATE
1. Real Sonar now has a config with 20+ customization options, rendering LITE's purpose obsolete.
Relevant customization options include:
• Sonar damage sliders
• A visual effects slider for sonar impacts and afflictions.
• (Old) Sonar ping volume sliders.
These additions make LITE unnecessary and outdated, so I encourage everyone to use Real Sonar instead, as I will no longer be supporting LITE in future.

2. For those still using LITE, this mod now requires Real Sonar to be enabled beneath it in the load order. Overriding afflictions is currently buggy in Barotrauma. If errors occur when enabling both mods, try enabling them one at a time.

This version contains:
- No damage from active sonar.
- Less intense visuals.
- Lower volume sounds.
+ The custom UIs.
+ A less expensive Anechoic Diving Suit.
+ The Nav Remote.

If you have any questions about this mod or how it works, see the original version here.

@line - Players are still required to have base Real Sonar for this addon to work. But I agree, this mod can simplify things and make your intentions clear for hosting.

@Tonic - Make sure you're adjusting the right setting for what you want to change. Tinnitus is the high-pitched ringing sound that plays from the acoustic trauma affliction, and "distortion" is an additional sound that plays when you take a large amount of damage from a ping.

If you want to make the sounds more like LITE, try changing the damage multipliers for all suits to 0.4 -- this will play the sonarPingWaterClose sounds at most, which is how LITE works. You can counter this damage reduction by changing the global damage slider, which doesn't affect sounds.

Thanks for using my mods, and don't worry about asking questions :)

hey, sorry for bothering you again, i just ran a few tests. one without soundproof walls enabled, one with soundproof walls on the default config, and one with soundproof walls that has tinnitus config under the sound volume multipliers list set to 0. unfortunately, there hasn't been any difference in the distortion sound for any of these three tests

however, the closest i got while toying with the real sonar config in the meantime was by making all the diving suit IDs have the anechoic property set to true in the config and reducing the suit ping volume slider, which honestly suffices for me

overall i don't even know if it was actually an intentional property of the lite mod, but what i distinctly remember was that when i last used it all of the diving suits would only play a light ping sound regardless of my distance from the source of the sonar (i think it was the sonarPingSuitFar ones?)

either way, thanks for you help!

@Tonic - Tinnitus and distortion sounds are unique to Real Sonar and not present in the LITE version because they're symptoms of taking damage from the pings. If you're unable to adjust the volume of these sounds, it could be due to Soundproof Walls overriding the volume controls. Try lowering the volume via Soundproof Walls instead, using the Sound Volume Multipliers list, insert "tinnitus":0.0

sorry for the confusion, i just looked into the mod and realised it's just overrides lol

however, i have the tinnitus and distortion volume sliders set to 0% and i'm still getting the terrible scratchy distortion and high pitch tone when i go outside in a normal diving suit. the only way i can currently lower the volume is by changing the water ping volume slider which will either mute any noise indicating that sonar is active, or just make the distortion quieter.

i remember when i last used this mod i would still get a ping noise when wearing a suit, it just wouldn't come with any of the ear-bleeding sound. could this be a bug on my end?

@Tonic - I'm not sure if I fully understand your question. Both mods use the same sounds. There are no sound replacement options available in the config, but if you mess around with the settings enough, you can remove some of the louder sounds.
Tonic 19 Feb, 2024 @ 6:37am
do you happen to know if the real sonar update which added the config options will replace the ear-piercing noise with a similar sonar blip sound to this mod, or if it just lowers the volume of the ear-piercing noise?

@Zach - Currently, for the best experience, yes. Client-side Lua won't be needed next patch except for access to the sonar settings menu.
