When I last tested it out it a few months ago it worked pretty much exactly as shown in the tutorial video - barring the refinery heater changes of course, so I'm not sure what's causing your issue.
Unfortunately if you're experiencing any touchy up and down movement it is most likely the result of the in-game rope physics and nothing to do with this creation, I know that Geometa changed them slightly over the last year or so and made them more springy or something but it's nothing too drastic as long as you're careful and not overly ham-fisted.
Once again, If you're having difficulty getting the Alwent South to work correctly, please watch the YouTube tutorial video, read the guides and if that still doesn't work then check out the "Common Mistakes" discussion above.
Sadly, almost every single complaint I've received in this comments section so far has been the result of the person that's posted it being careless, not following the correct procedure, making silly mistakes on their side or in some rare instances has even been caused by a known glitch or bug with the game itself and not with this creation, so please use your common sense and investigate any issues thoroughly for yourself before posting them here.
I'm going to chalk it up to a random glitch with the Stormworks game physics again and sadly unless you've saved your world shortly before it happened then you'll need to start again from scratch.
The biggest culprits were those new liquid relief valves that replaced the now deprecated fluid filters, it turns out that they actually reduce the flow rate quite significantly and that needed to be taken into account during the rework of the fluid system.
I've also experimented with Kettle's findings and added some more weights to the drill rod connector, which helps prevent it from going limp as much when running at lower physics settings or whenever there's another creation nearby that's got a lot of pivots and/or physics objects attached.
The pivot bug can still occur, it's just not very likely unless you really push the limits of the old Stormworks game engine by bringing some really complex creations into the same area as the Alwent South.
Enjoy!
