Description
Heads up! The mod is back in development under new management due to my time and skill limits. Mantastic has worked hard on the re-release and I'm on-board to help make it work. This version will remain on the workshop so nobody loses a well-earned savegame just because of this.

Old Earth Tech is meant to bridge the technological and production gap in the base version of Stranded : Alien Dawn. I understand that the lore of the game has instructions and recipes to jump immediately into more “modern” technologies, but I feel that misses something important.

Even when you know how to make something, you might lack the materials or especially the tools to do so. Often you’d lack the basic tools needed to create the end product. And even when you have those tools and materials, you probably don’t have a large or steady supply of them.

So I decided to remedy this honest oversight in the pursuit of a straightforward gaming experience. Of course I did so by making things more complex and interactive with each other. If that isn’t something you care for I completely understand and respect it, but I’d still suggest giving it a try. Old Earth Tech Is a work in progress and I actively enjoy feedback and suggestions. Now that the introduction notes are done, here’s what Old Earth Tech has to offer!

Weapons


Bayonet - A bayonet is a knife, dagger, sword, or spike-shaped weapon designed to fit on the end of the muzzle of a rifle, carbine, musket or similar firearm, allowing it to be used as a spear-like weapon. (Please note that it functions as a separate melee weapon in-game)


Recurve Bow - A newer take on the Simple Bow


Compound Bow - A more modern take of the Simple Bow which can fire farther, faster and more accurately. All while being easier to use.


Compound Crossbow - A compound in a nutshell offers greater power, precision and is easier to use from the start.For Hunting, which of these crossbow types is the best? The answer to this depends on the type of hunting you are going to do.


Muskets - While primitive and slow to fire, the Musket has a great deal of stopping power.


Cartridge Muskets - With prepared cartridges a musket has a higher rate of fire.


Blunderbuss - The most ancient ancestor of the Pulse Rifle, the blunderbuss is a short, muzzle-loading shoulder weapon with a wide smooth bore flared at the muzzle to scatter the shot at very close range.


Coach Gun - The next generation of what would become the shotgun, this can fire faster and hit harder.

Peacemaker - The Colt Single Action Army was dubbed the "Peacemaker", and is a famous piece of Americana and the American Wild West era, due to its popularity with ranchers, lawmen, and outlaws alike.


Bolt Action Rifle - The Bolt Action Rifle is a type of manual firearm action that is operated by directly manipulating the bolt via a bolt handle, it features a massive leap in range, rate of fire, accuracy & stopping power over more primitive ranged weapons.


Bolt Action Rifle - Hunting Rifle - Adding a Scope to the Bolt Action Rifle increases it's range & accuracy



Bolt Action Rifle - High Caliber - This variant of the Bolt Action Rifle has been rebuilt to handle a larger bullet. Usually moving from a .30-06 Springfield round to a .50 BMG round.


Bolt Action - Sniper Rifle - Historically used by militaries of Earth, This weapon requires a high level of training and focus. It features a scope and is chambered to use a .50 BMG round.


M1911 - The Colt M1911 is a single-action, recoil-operated, semi-automatic pistol chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. Stopping Power? More Like 'Go-The-Other-Way' Power.



Semi-Automatic Rifle - The Semi-Automatic Rifle Features a minor range improvement a large rate of fire improvement over a slight loss of accuracy


Semi-Automatic Rifle - High Caliber -This variant of the Semi-Automatic Rifle is designed with a bigger bullet in mind. Note: I know it’s the same icon.


Semi-Automatic Rifle - HCLR - Based off of the old Barrett M82 (standardized by the U.S. military as the M107) it is a recoil-operated, semi-automatic anti-materiel rifle. Despite being designated as an anti-materiel rifle, the M82 can also be deployed as an anti-personnel system.


Automatic Rifle - Combining the best aspects of both the AR and AK weapon platforms, the Automatic rifle is still in active service on the frontier to this day. It does have a range reduction compared to the Semi Automatic but a large rate of fire improvement.

If you want to build the sewing machine inside, go into the mod editor and select the building device_sewing machine the click the option in the tab construction > ignore > flooring. Once it is highlighted blue, save the mod and you should be able to build the sewing machine inside rooms with flooring. Hope this helps.

Great mod,
I like the addition of simple firearms, makes sense that a survivor would not directly transition to a laser weapon from a bow...
But i have one question: Where do i find the "boomstick" that is required for the coach gun and cartridge musket?

Also, I'm unable to put the sewing machine indoors. Says there's something blocking it even though there's plenty of space, which makes me think it's vertical spacing might be off and it's hitting the ceiling somehow.

Love the heck out of this mod.

One suggestion though, I think it would be ideal if all the OET items were grouped under their own toolbar icon, so they're easier to locate.

This looks like a great addtion that will improve the realism in the game.

Ideas for bootstrapping to future tech:

Refined silicon (growing crystals).
Tools to make lenses, then microscopes and lithography machines for IC production.
Glass production.
Refined glass.
Plastics.
Microcontroller IC production.
CRT displays.
Solar cells from refined silicon.
Fiber optics production from refined glass.

To skip bootstrapping, it should be possible to deconstruct loot such as laser pistols into lenses etc.

@SomeCallMeTim, back again with 2 minor things, the Blade can be stored but Bayonet don't seem to have any designated storage category, so it just gets dumped on the floor. Same seems to be true with the Carved Wood Gifts (can't recall the exact name) but I'm not sure if those are from your mod or not.

@SomeCallMeTim, a few things I noticed, not sure if it's from your mod or Beyond Stranded but a couple of rifles need "Boomstick" to unlock, I've checked and checked again can't seem to find it or craft it. Also the "Sewing Machine" can't be reached after placed down in any location, be it outside or on a floor, so it can't even be removed, you'll have to load a save, otherwise you're stuck with it in the built location. No deal breakers for sure, but small annoyances just that I thought I'd report so you can iron them out :)
