This is a rebalance from [Beta] Modular+++ Shields v0.62b mod and therefore requires that mod to work.

INCLUDES OVERCLOCK.

I just realized that I forgot to modify Model-B starting ship with the new modular system. Maybe in the weekend I will make a hotfix and also update the description below and add new images to the mod.

Changes Summary
I made a lot of changes from the original mod. You can read the changes in the changelog. To sum it up:
  • COMPLETELY REMADE BUBBLE SHIELDS (read below).
  • Removed vanilla shields and replaced them with the new shields.
  • Added Emmiter Effects, Sound, and some minor changes.
  • Modified all parts names, titles, descriptions.
  • Modified some graphic and sound effects to match the newest vanilla effects.
  • Added stats to the toggles.
  • Modified tech.
  • Modified distances and arcs to be more balanced, specially removed the 200º arc, and the ridiculous bubble sizes, and rebalanced the line shapes.
  • Modified Large shields to match Vainilla's large shields.
  • Added Model-B ship as a starter ship for career mode.
  • Added modular capabilities to the Bubble Shields.
  • Added Overclock to all parts.
  • Added a Spanish translation.
Bubble Shields
  • Small Bubble shield has 4 segments each with 5000 HP and 8.33 penetration resistance.
  • Large Bubble shield has 6 segments each with 10000 HP and 16.66 penetration resistance.
  • Shield Battery Module can be placed adjacent to a bubble shield, increasing the radius, penetration resistance and health of each segment.
The idea of a segmented shield is for balance. Normally, you can use focus fire toward a ship, ignoring most of their shields to attack a specific point. With original bubble shields, that was impossible, making them too resilient against concentrated fire. Now they have segments, which allows that tactic to be used against bubble shields. The Tiny Shield Generators can be used to provide extra health to help you against focused fire, allowing you to build a modular shield.

Things to do
  • [Done] Make Bubble Shields increase their range when combined with Shield Battery Modules.
  • [Done] Make Bubble Shields use a buff for Radius instead of hardcoded.
  • [Done] Make Tiny Shields have EmitterEffect.
  • Make Large Bubble Shield being obstructed by tall structures. Currently impossible but Walt will add in the future the required parameter.
  • Make Shield Battery Modules change their color when adjacent to a Bubble Shield with different color.
  • [Done] Add an icon to the Buff provided by Bubble Shields and Tiny Shields.
  • [Done] Make Sheld Battery Module doesn't share energy with Bubble Shield if it is disabled.
  • Reduce this mod's size by referring to the original mod's graphic files instead of cloning the files.
  • Add new ships and stations that use bubble shields for all factions.

Found a pretty bad bug: When using two shields, and attempting to join them with the battery modules, a single line works just fine, but any longer, and the game hard-crashes. not even with the error reporter. here's an example:

O = shield - = battery
O-O: fine. shields function normally
O--O, O---O or greater: Hard crash

i like the idea about segment shields, butit would probably be better to make the "boost with tiny shields to make them bigger" into a seperate mod, so one can continue using big ships on the design of those shields if they so wish

- I don't think there is a problem with the price.
- I just made it so that Tiny Shields can increase the radius of Bubble Shields by 1m each.
- Segments should deplete correctly, I'm not sure what is happening for you. Each segment has its own hp, but all of them share a global hp if you add Tiny Shields.
- Changing the number of segments and radius is a bit problematic, cause they can't accept buffs, therefore I need to hardcode each option. Also, changing the number of segments affects the balance.
- I would also love to make segments slowly rotate, but there doesn't exist a component for that.
- I don't have textures of large modules to create a huge bubble shield.
