Planet Earth

Description
Detailed and realistic planet Earth in 8k with peaceman's Water mod. The project started late in June 2024 and reached playable state with the ore update in mid November 2024.

World Setup Guide
1. Before starting the game, set planet radius in ...\Steam\steamapps\common\MedievalEngineers\Content\Data\Scenarios\Scenario_EmptyPlanet.sbx

find <Radius>5000</Radius> and change it to <Radius>25000</Radius>

(I recommend between 25 km to 50 km. At 25 km radius, most rivers are 25 m wide, 5 m deep. If planet radius is 50 km, most rivers would be 50 m wide and 10 m deep. You can change the radius back to original value after your world is created.)

2. Start the game and go to Custom World, select Planet Earth on the scenario list. (No need to select Water Core as mod because it is already set as dependency.)

3. Once you are in the world, set tides to fix sea level completely (you need to press LAlt+F10 and enable creative mode tools first):
/tide max -1
/tide min 1
if you set tides wrong, simply do
/tide reset
then repeat the above commands.

Make sure that "Compressed saved games" is unchecked in game options. Save your game and exit.

4. Open ...AppData\Roaming\MedievalEngineers\Saves\[NameOfYourWorld]\Sandbox.sbc
Find <ViewDistance>2600</ViewDistance> and change it to <ViewDistance>15000</ViewDistance>
if your planet radius is not 25 km, make ViewDistance 60% of the radius as peaceman suggests.

Planet Details
  • Better and dense roads over Europe, Middle East and North Africa. The rest is made with no change on heightmap
  • Physical water feature names on map (sea, lake, bay...etc)
  • Added three new grid block count levels with new icons making it to total of six levels: 10, 60, 300, 1200, 3600 and 7200 blocks for icons.
  • Large patches of every ores on realistic mineral locations and smaller patches of copper, iron and tin everywhere. (JRC Publications)
  • Increased water depth for shallow waters and seas to minimum of 25 m and navigable rivers to 5 m depth. (gebco)
  • Uplifted lowlands above global sea level (gebco)
  • Rivers and some of the coasts are partially hand drawn (naturalearth & bluemarble)
  • Rivers and lakes at high altitudes are removed due to water level being same everywhere. Removed lakes are represented as dry lakes.
  • Most rivers are 25 m wide and 5 m deep, except there are smaller rivers in Europe, Middle East and North Africa. Smaller rivers can be a whole river or branch of a larger river or begginning part of it.
  • There are some coasts I modified according to past Medieval geography. These are The Netherlands, Po River delta, Nile delta, shores of Basra and Adam's Bridge that connects Sri Lanka to India. (euratlas)
  • Desert oases are placed on wetlands (hydrosheds)
  • Trees are placed on according to Nasa Land Cover Classification, but in some biomes Cropland/Natural Vegetation Mosaic is also partially considered as forest.
  • Modified water surface color (a blit lighter and glossy blue).

Here is a link to my mod pack for ME World Vikings US this is a way for you to play planet earth with most of the mods we currently have on the server in single player. It will show up as a avail scenario when you subscribe just choose it and play

This world works perfectly ! we are now on our second run of it on ME World Vikings US server it is important to note that if playing first time you need to make that size adjustment to the file described in the setup instructions This is a one time thing to get your world to its correct size Now if you play on a server such as MEWVUS you do not need to do this as I have already done it and the world will load correct size and you will first spawn in on the surface at one of my safe start areas This is a full featured world with all of the enhanced minerals built in and is a very accurate planet earth The fact that it is so big it gives players the ability to really spread out I have players world wide and we have really enjoyed playing in our native countries I can honestly say that this world plays as well as or maybe better than vanilla.

While following the World Setup Guide above, add a bed and claim it for singleplayer or place a "safe area" flag somewhere in the world if you are planning to play with friends. BTW ME-Vikings server started a new world with Planet Earth few days ago.

Thanks for this map its awesome. However, I am finding the map really hard to follow :) Have you found any way to improve the in game map for planet earth?
