I wanted to share some info on maps that I'm designing for the mod.
As some of you may have already seen, a lot of the non-vanilla planets use recycled maps from existing planets with altered textures.

For the past few months, I have been working on rectifying this by creating brand new maps for these mod planets.

So far, I've designed Tython, Nar Shaddaa, Commenor, and Rothana.

While these planets do use preexisting map layouts like their previous version, I spent countless hours each day to redesign these maps to better portray their background.

I'm also designing some planets that could appear at some point in the future.

I'm currently working on a handful of redesigns and new planets that could someday appear in on the mod's Galactic Map.

I thought it would be fun to share some of my progress by giving some previews of upcoming maps to give subscribers some hype for potential updates.

Here's some of the planets that I currently have in the works:

Oovo IV

I'm having a ton of fun designing Oovo IV to emulate the claustrophobic canyons seen in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. It was a very unforgiving with a very unique look and feel that I somehow managed to replicate. It's not done quite yet but, it's getting there.


Pantolomin

Pantolomin is a pretty obscure planet with very few pieces of visual reference to work from but, due to its proximity to the Core Worlds (literally next-door to Coruscant), I wanted to do away with its re-skin of Eriadu to give it a more tropical look.

It's taking quite a bit of time to finish since its going to have its own unique map that I have been building from scratch since maybe September or October.


Scarif

Okay, before you start saying, 'Oh god, here we go! Another♥♥♥♥♥♥s trying to make Scarif!', just know that I've spent an entire day (morning to night) working to make the water and the lighting look as authentic to how it was in the film as possible.

The entire map is also being made with vanilla asset, so my only long-term concern is trying to replicate the Citadel Tower but, so far, I think its coming out pretty well.


Rhen Var

I don't have any screenshots of this map yet but, just know that I'm going to get ride of that mess of copy/paste Ruins props. I'm probably going to recycle my revision of rothana for Rhen Var with slightly altered paths and props because when I worked on Rothana, I 'painted' and sculpted all of the mountains to make them look natural and it took a total of two weeks.

I'll probably end up doing that again even if I did recycle Rothana's design because I always find something new to change.


Those are the only planets currently in the works but, I enjoy working on them so the process should move along at a reasonable pace. Once those planets are complete, I'll probably tackle the other planets that either use recycled layouts or have missing assets (like Cinnagar).

I'm back with some previews of Rhen Var.

Rhen Var will have three different available battle conditions: Noon Snow, Day Blizzard, and Night Snow.

I know I said I was just going to copy/paste Rothana for Rhen Var since they're the same map layout but, I ended up adding some new shortcuts and obstacles to better distinguish the map from its Rothana counterpart.

If there's any fans of the 2003 Clone Wars game, I added an easter egg that you guys might enjoy ;)

There isn't a set ETA for when Rhen Var will be complete because it depends on when I feel that the map is presentable.

I have a handful of map changes coming for the next update.

Cato Neimodia
Layout-wise, Cato Neimodia is identical to the current one but, some of the visuals had to be altered because the assets made specifically for the map were lost in a previous update. From what I saw in the base layout preview, there used to be up-scaled versions of the land bridges but, those were added before I was involved with the mod so I had to compensate by using the vanilla versions in-mass.

The planet will also have different conditions: Day, Noon, and Night.

Dathomir
Dathomir's layout is more-or-less the same but, the aesthetics of the planet were updated to resemble the new canon.

The map will also have different conditions.
Dathomir Clear (normal) and Dathomir Cursed which is shrouded in a green fog; reminiscent to the ones conjured up by the Nightsisters.

Devaron

Devaron received a complete makeover to make it resemble the canon version seen in the Clone Wars. I also added the Temple of Eedit to give the map a bit more character.

The map is still a work-in-progress but, I'm going to try to have it ready before the next update.

Rendili
The current version of Rendili is just a shameless copy/paste of Bothuwai with swapped textures. I rectified that by actually fleshing out the map. The overall aesthetic of my version of Rendili is based on how I thought the surface would look like using the planet's image as reference because apparently there's no in-atmosphere visuals of Rendili.

As a nod to Rendili Hyperworks and the Victor Initiative Project, I added space docks to the space map.

Rodia

Rodia also receive a makeover.
There used to be domed city in the crater but, that was lost in a previous update because it used custom assets. To compensate, I did my best to add a new city in its place.

I also prettied up the terrain with more diversified textures and removed all of the ground cover (grass sprites) and placed them sparingly to better optimize the map performance-wise.

Sadly, I couldn't get the neutral shield to work but, the implied perimeter around the city should be enough.

Planets In-Development

Here's a list of planets/moons that are currently in-development:

  • Yavin IV - Going to replace the pine forest with a tropical one.
  • Kohlma (The Moon of the Dead) - One of the obscure locations from Star Wars: Bounty Hunter. It's one of Bogden's moons.
  • Pantolomin - It still has a long way to go.
  • Arkania - The current map is a sloppy retexture of Alzoc and there's too many snow planets with that so I'm making an original one from scratch.
  • Anaxes - Might make it look like it does in canon with the red trees but, not changing much beyond that.
  • Cinnagar - All of its assets were custom made so the current map is just a bunch of mountains. I'm going to try to recreate the map with vanilla assets. I know it won't look as good as the original but, its still a very necessary fix.
  • Korriban - Going to rename it Moraband and fix the color scheme to resemble the canon version.
  • Naboo - Going to make some balancing changes by moving some of the Gungans inland (away from the starting area) and adding a more prominent swamp section to the map.
  • Oovo IV - Still in-development
  • Manaan - There's a prop antenna to the east of the starting area that was incorrectly placed by the devs and its been bothering me for literally 10 years. From the fixed camera view you can see two antennas on a ledge but, if you rotate the camera, you can see that one of the antennas is actually on the lower level.
  • Lothol - I just started watching Rebels so don't expect the planet to be ready in the near future lol
  • Muunilinst - While it does already resemble the version seen in Clone Wars (2003), I want to make the map have more variety than big open corridors with nothing in them.
  • Coruscant - I want to update the map with FoC props since there's more assets to work with than when the map was first conceived. I also wanted to add a night version.

Very nice! A better coruscant is nice, needs to look good for when the rebels finally parade down the streets. Would be nice if Hoth was made to look more like it does in the movies :) Nice job on Scarif too.

Funny you mention that. I'm actually working on Coruscant right now c;
It was supposed to be in the Cartographer update but, it had to be shelved for a later update because it wasn't finished.

It's essentially the same map but, more refined.

  • Less lumpy terrain (there's more uneven terrain than you think in the vanilla version)
  • Uses buildings that were added in FoC
  • Has more varying textures (less grey concrete).
  • Will have a night version added to existing possible map conditions.
  • A more realistic looking sunset.
  • Has sky traffic that was strangely omitted from the vanilla version.

It'd be cool to see worlds and units introduced in earlier Star War rts' get added (if they haven't been added already.)

New Units would be cool but, gui is in charge of programming the stuff.
I just do maps.
But, I did consider possibly adding worlds from other Star Wars games like Rogue Squadron.

Did you see my other comments regarding coruscant? Basically, according to new canon, the jedi temple became the imperial palace, and in game, there is a jedi temple model, but for some reason it has no textures. Could that be used as the imperial palace instead of the tiny tower we see currently?

Not entirely sure about retexturing it but, I am going to forward the issue to the main patch thread run by VT.

Strangely the temple has a texture in the editor but, not in-game.
I know this has to be a bug because I use the temple on Devaron for lore reasons.

So...funny story about the new Pantolomin map... that map was the first map I started working on from scratch. It took about as much time as it probably took the game's devs to make the vanilla maps; roughly 4 months.

I'm glad that its finally done with so I can stop worrying about it.
What's even funnier is that I could have recycled the overall design to make Canto Bight for the Corporate Sector but, the Last Jedi wasn't out yet.

May I suggest revising Eriadu a bit? I feel like the city part is a bit underwhelming, since there's only one type of building. Actually, many of the maps that are supposed to be urban have very few buildings and streets.

I mean...its the vanilla map. If I was to make a new map, I would end up attempting to make the Carrion Spike XD

I might consider it. I never had that much of a problem with the map aside from how many bunkers were on it.

Nar shadda looks amazing btw, wish every map looked as awesome xD The level of detail is nice, with all the small things like boxes, civilians, statues and the different buildings. alot of vanilla planets could use such an overhaul. Coruscant is also good.

Glad to hear you like it. Telos received an overhaul too. I know there's some discrepancies in having it exist since Old Republic was thousands of years ago but, its more of fan service I guess.
