SMRPG remains one of my favorite games in the series, so naturally there were going to be some references, though I didn't want to go overboard with things that most new players wouldn't get (the Seven Stars are still relevant in modern games so they get a pass).
If you're looking for more nostalgia, maybe check out my Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom mod for Dwarf Fortress, (which borrows heavily from SMRPG).
