M18 J2 Interchange

Improvement ideas...
I would make the roundabout go in the opposite direction of the traffic (so if it's right-hand driving, it would go clockwise), and directly connect to the on-off lanes to bypass the interchange if they want to go one way, and go into the interchange if they want to other way.

For example, for right hand driving, you get off the highway on the right, and either take right to get on the other highway's right side, or left for the highway's left side. This would also account for those turning back in the roundabout, so they have to go to only a quarter (1/4) of the roundabout, to turn back, instead of 3 quarters (3/4), and turning left (for left-hand driving) or right (for left-hand driving) will still take two quarters (2/4), thus reducing the time a car spends in the intersection.

That's a good idea, and thank you for the suggestion. I will experiment with doing that in the asset editor and test in-game to see how effective it is. If you would like to do it in-game and test for yourself, you can use the Road Anarchy mod to change the road type without ruining the aesthetics of the interchange.

Do you have any other suggestions or general feedback (positive or negative)?:steamhappy:

Another suggestion would be moving the roundabout above the straight lanes, as a failsafe in case the terrain makes it so entering the roundabout if you're going straight is a shorter route than using the dedicated forward lanes. By making the route through the roundabout longer, the AI is less likely to use the roundabout instead of the dedicated right lane road.

That is why I made a road where I had a tunnel going underground for forward, the land road going forward in for the other highway, and two roundabouts, one clockwise and one counterclockwise. But it seems that slightly changing your intersection would be the most efficient way. Also, if you make the roundabout going opposite to the direction of the traffic (i.e. right hand driving resulting in a clockwise roundabout), you make it so that the road forward through the intersection is (also) less likely to be picked.

It's all about having failsafes for every possible situation. And for some seemingly impossible situations, as well. That's why nobody accidentally launched a nuclear apocalypse yet. Failsafes over failsafes, over failsafes, over failsafes, over failsafes, and so on.

Is there any way you would create a sketch (even in paint or similar) to show your first idea in visual form? I'm happy to make changes, or release an alternative version, but need to better understand your plan.

Note that for the left-hand driving, the directions will (all) be reversed.
I have too many assets, so I'm not spending a hour to open the game (plus more time making it), just to make an intersection... otherwise I might...

Oh, you can use this as inspiration:

The roundabout would go in the opposite direction to normal roundabouts in a city, so for right-hand driving it would go clockwise.
