Kirisuto means Christian
Kyo means doctrine.
The Kirisuto-Kyo Clerics are basde off the idea of the Norse War Clerics from Medieval II Total War. However, unlike those Clerics, the Kirisuto-Kyo Clerics are a more peasantly bunch, led by jesuit priests from Europe, instead of the nobility that was the Norse War Clerics.
As for the Kirisuto Fanatics, those are based off the fact that certain groups of people are very fanatical about religion. As can be seen with the Shimabara Rebellion (Tokugawa Shogunate persecutes christianity, rebellion occurs), or with the Kakure Kirishitan (Hidden Christians) of Japan.
As for why they have swords? Well, Yari and Bow Ashigaru already existed, so I decided to give them swords. Think of it as them as a mob of rebels stealing the status symbol of the Samurai class and using it against their feudal tyrannic superiors.
