I FOUND OUT HOW TO YOU JUST HAVE TO RENAME FREEDOOM1/2.WAD TO DOOM/2.WAD

How odd, it crashes the game when I try to play with the freedoom iwad

@Mr. Skops Really?? 😮 Can you post a screenshot of the Freedoom2 E0M1 level loaded in gmDoom to verify this??

how did you get it to work with freedoom? When I try that the game just crashes

if you are using freedoom1.wad rename it to DOOM.WAD if your are using freedoom2.wad rename it to DOOM2.WAD if that doesn't work then idk what to do
I tried renaming freedoom2.wad to doom2.wad and that crashes the game when loading a map.
Ok so, the freedoom2 wad has a few placeholder files for some sounds (DSPEDTH, DSBSPWLK, DSFLAME and DSFLAMST) which were causing the crashes, I replaced them with silence and it worked without problems. Also the sound of the rocket launcher (DSRLAUNC) didn't play because gmod doesn't support the samplerate it was on, so I changed it from 16000hz to 22050hz and it worked.

@Elvis Cochuelo Sounds? What are you talking about? Gmod is unable to play sounds from wad files, it's a Source engine limitation.
@Zsombor99 gmDoom opens the wad file to obtain the sprites, sounds, textures, etc. and converts them into graphics and sounds that gmod can render.
