When making a PC Build..
Why is there a Designing Phase when you already design the Build in the "Design Document" where you already have to plan and selecting the Features and Parts only to go on in the Alpha Phase where you also seem to have to Code something and make some Art for it..
The Beta-Phase well don't know have mixed feelings about it, some errors can occur but not really much and definitly not 500 and last but not least the past "Planning/Production" Support also kinda mixed feelings
When I build my PC I haven't to Code it and didn't have to make Art for it.. well I had to install the Operating System and Programms but I didn't need to Design, Program, and make the Art for it.. and it doesn't take a Month to Build and install the OS, it doesn't even take a full day, maybe couple of hours max..
A design, alpha and beta phase is the standard procedure for developing a product in this game, as well as the later support phase. The occuring bugs can be reduced before, with a shared server and good skills from the employees.
Every feature is timed in in-game months. This is hardcoded from the game dev and you can only change the amount in a certain range of values. Sure you can change that to 0.01 and develope everything in a day or an instant, but where is the fun to that?
Keep in mind, that the game was and is actually called "software inc". Everything the developer plan is based on software and nothing other like hardware or smartphones etc.
With additional content like hardware and some other things, I have pushed the current in-game limits to their utmost, while making huge compromises because of the game mechanics.
The expected interest doesn't seem to be affected in your mod. It is ALWAYS 100% which isn't realistic nor challenging.
Changing it in a way to scale with the number of features and with how recent the features are, will definitely improve the experience of your mod
Did you use coolers back in the 90's?
I do and there were grids with animal motives as well as dragons in led lightning etc. I implemented them as a creative aspect. I don't see what is wrong with that ;)
If I understood it right you mean the expected interest, when adding one feature after another in the window for creating a product, right?
If yes, I can't change that, because that value is automatically hardcode calculated from the game itself.
I did change the values for Innovation/Usability/Stability for each feature differently, but the interest value I cannot change.
If I remember right, it represents the current interest in your product. With adding new features it will understandably rise, because people will automatically want that "new" feature, since it is new.
If you remove one of the up-to-date features, the value will go down.
2- """""If I remember right, it represents the current interest in your product. With adding new features it will understandably rise, because people will automatically want that "new" feature, since it is new.

yes exactly...
in the vanilla game, the basic software has a basic fan interest which is usually 15 to 30%, but as you add feature it increases gradually to 100%....but with your mod, the interest is already 100% from the start
but just wanted to get my thoughs out about the option of beeing a Computer building company.
I have played it for weeks in Vanilla before i started looking for mods so i get what you mean, and agree on that there is only so much you can do when it comes to modding especially when the games source code isn't fully accessable or when there aren't tools out that allow the full control and redesigning some of the core features.
That beeing said the reason behind my feedback was only because i didn't thought that the stages would be hardcoded like that into the game since when making "Game Assets" in Vanilla it seems to skip the designing phase and the beta phase gives a "No bugs to fix" (thus i got the impression that you could program like a threshold value for possible bugs) statement at the end so i thought you intentionally designed the process like it were one of the other software types.
And last but not least, keep the good work up.
The developing stages are completely in control of the game developer. I don't even know where to search for, if I wanted to mod them in any way. I think he will change them in the future again, if he finds a better system like last time.
@Moe ilia,
1 - Graphic cards will be unlocked around 1995-1997. The exact unlock date can be found in the mod description. In reality they came around only then and therefore they are not unlocked already in 1980.
2 - After researching several hours today, this behaviour is a bug that came with A10. I fixed that after many testing sessions for a short while, but it occured again after changing some game values. I have yet to find a logical behaviour to fix that. I assume that I need a few days, if not longer. Curiously when starting in 1990, the interest rate will work just fine...
3 - With the next update there are all products available, that you can develop from the start. I finished that already today and will upload it with the fix together.
But I think the game would be too easy, if that is removed at this point of developing^^
You've done great work so far, but I do have two suggestions.
There are very, very many features for each software or hardware type, to the point where it may become overwhelming/redundant for the sake of features. I would suggest a "lite" version of A10 with the core hardware and software types, alongside a streamlined feature tree for each.
Secondly, I don't always want to play with real software company names- a version with randomized names would be great.
Thanks!
- I not only implemented real companies, I also added some non existant fantasy names. The problem here is, you only have one name generator, that is using the company names randomly for the entire game. You don't have much influence, but can insert suggestions to use. For this, you must add the fantasy names in it.
I think it would be more to your liking, if you simply replace the names in the company.txt (to find in the folder "NameGenerators") to the ones you want to use. This can be done from anyone, who can use an texteditor/office/wordpad etc.
- One of the points in creating this mod was to deliver more detail to the whole feature system, since I found it too empty and not realistic enough. Therefore I have only selected the "necessary" milestones in every product and sorted out the non-essential parts, because it would be too much/long.
More streamlined would be possible in some cases if I remove researches etc., but for that to work I have to re-design the whole mod opposite to what it is now. That would take a huge amount of time and I have to stop working on adding and optimizing more content for A9 & A10.
Since the feature system will be completely overhauled in A11 and I maybe have to restart from the scratch again after that, making a Lite Version right now seems not to be to reasonable at this point of time.
If the dev decides to not change the feature system radically anymore and I have most of the content implemented that is in my head, I will pick up the idea of creating some varying/lite versions with different content.
But like I said, at this stage the timing is not good and the workload for one person to realize this in time would be too much. What you see so far is the work after almost 1 year ^^'
What would you define as core Hardware/Software?
