Request for a Unit Size Submod
The unit size in AE was lowered after Ver. 1.02e (or 1.03). However, many may prefer the old setting (256 for phalanx, 240 for melee, 120 for calvary, 48 for elephants etc.) just like myself. Therefore I'd like to send out a request to our fellow community for a submod that readjust the unit size to a more historically accurate level. My highest gratitude for those who would like to create such a mod, thank you all. (Sadly, I don't possese the skill needed, otherwise I'd do it myself...)

Main problem with old unit size is engine. Frames of animations in 1vs1 full army are like 10 per second.

@Sgori Smaller army sizes are always available for people. And for better hardwares, the old unit size is totally functional. I'm just saying that people should have another option.

I've figured out how to modify the unit size, but I'm having troubles changing the size of the starting armies.

The starting armies automatically update when you run a new startpos with the mod files. This is a pretty slow process and one of the reasons why there is no official support for a unit submod at this time - with updates to the mod every few days, this would require equally frequent maintenance. Certainly this will change when the rate of updates slows down as the mod gets nearer completion in terms of factions and features we want in, and we will start pushing out more official submods. Until then, it can be done, but it is a lot of work.

What do you mean by "automatically update when you run a new startpos with the mod files"?

Amen. I would also love to see a unit size increase submod. When the unit sizes was reduced recently I was quite disappointed.

Yea, the old ones are more historically accurate.

me too! i want larger armies, its more realistic... like actual cohort sized units would be awesome... and any chance legionaires can be given other abilities? like focus fire their pila on a certain target? and rank rotations for formations? that was really one of the major reasons why the legions were so good. they kept up a fresh front at all times by doing rank rotations. whereas most barbarian/other armies just fought til the front man dies or is taken out

Changing the unit size wasn't all that hard, but I'm not sure if rank rotation is posible in the current system.

It would be great if someone could increase the unit size again. I already asked in the AE forum for it. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?787655-Unit-size-change
