how can i fix the brightness
when i use mat_specular 0 the game will crash after a few seconds and a engine error will pop up with no text

uninstall gmod and re install it

Have you tried verifying the game files integrity? Also, could you let me know which branch you're using and what operating system you're on?

i found out what was wrong. turning off HDR fixes it
