Torchlight II

Ubuntu Font

Found it
Ok seems as though the login window will behave differently when clicking on the OK button or just pushing the Enter button. Seems like pressing the Enter button will give you a denied message when it would usually work otherwise, but if you click the ok button it works.

could this have to do with the symbol the enter button is using in that font?

Could be, although both methods are working on my end (just tried it, I can login just fine with either Enter button).

Could it possibly be language related (my OS is in Dutch)? I remember running into programs in the past which didn't work correctly until I played around with the Regional Options in Windows. Although, the only real difference here are those .ttf files, so I might be completely wrong.

Testing with any other font works perfectly. Seems the font has issues conforming to the standard Runic is using in their login window.

What does the game tell you when you try to bind a function to the Enter key (Settings -> Controls)? For example, when I modify "Reset Camera" and press Enter it says "Ret", which is probably short for "Return".

Tried binding a key to return and it shows Ret in the text box. I am quite certain it is the font you are using, any other font in its place that I downloaded online would let me log in fine.

Really weird. I tried to copy serifbig.font to a new login.font and make that dialog box use it (so it reverts back to the original huge.ttf), but GUTS threw up an error and the game crashed when I pressed the login button.

I found out that Serif20.font, Serif24.font and Serif28.font (which are original files) also do not show up as font options in GUTS (and make the game crash when you edit the layout files manually). I can't find anything else in the file structure that has to do with fonts. Maybe these values are hardcoded in the game somewhere?

I'm out of ideas at this point, like I said it works on my end so that makes troubleshooting pretty difficult :-(

So strange that It has this small glitch. Well Im sure we can work around it somehow. I will take the time to figure out which file is causing the issue and get back to you. Maybe we can just replace that one file with a similar font and no one will be able to notice in only those windows. :) test in the morning so I will try some things after I get home.

Hey, that's actually a good idea :-)
I reverted system.font back to the original file, and made the username and password boxes use it. I just updated the mod, try it out and let me know if this works for you.

Heh, your latest change must have modified mainmenumod.layout, since it now breaks fast resume and quit if it's running at a higher priority. Easy fix (just run it last) so nothing to worry about, but you may want to mention any additional files that it modifies.

I've been editing quite a few layout files to fix font sizing and alignments. Mod compatibility was in the back of my mind already, I purposely haven't touched any of the stash and merchant layouts. I'll update the description.

not only does modifying the layout for mainmenumod.layout break the fast resume and load, but also including the player and pet inventory layouts breaks any inventory mods ;) I would avoid adjusting too many layout files themself. But other than that the mod is fixed now! :D thanks! I'm going to return this font pack into the mod compilation, but I will have to clear out some of the layouts.

I agree, having that many layout files in there just creates too many issues. This will probably be the final update. I left login.layout in there to fix the login problem, and target_health_bar.layout to have the mob names properly aligned.

Cool. You just ran into the paradox of modding Torchlight: if you fix too many things you start breaking others. Great mod, and thanks for taking the time to address those issues.

Indeed, having everything look nice means nothing if people can't use it :-)
I just realized I didn't copy the login fix to the translations folder, so that's now taken care of as well.

btw, I uploaded another mod last night: Clear Minimap
It's a simple texture edit to get rid of the border around the minimap. The viewable area is slightly larger too. Makes for a good companion to your "hide menubuttons in combat" mod (which I use myself, good stuff).
