Difference in Thrumbo Gear and Armor

Besides the obvious of Armor giving more protection at the cost of materials required. I'd also like to know if I need Giddy Up to ride a Thrumbo.

i use giddy up and it works. armored bear cavalry ftw.

The gear is pretty much an addon in addition to the Armor, you can wear both(or either one alone) - and yes, you need GiddyUp
