After selecting the different factions, the planet can be successfully created. However, the faction creation interface still appears and overlays on top of the planet. The interface can be dismissed by continuously selecting cancel. It is possible to select the planet normally, but the map creation process eventually gets stuck.

I have same problem, adding in full log:

Roight then, time to post my (probably first) error log.

This error occurred after world-gen, when I was shown the planet and had to pick a landing site. The world-gen screen with all the factions was still open, and I had to click BACK for it to close.

The planet was generated at 100%, Population - Crowded, with 3 extra factions.

The map loaded and pawns could move about the map normally.
Ruins were present and deconstructable.
Did not do anything else, as I'm in the middle of testing for failure to generate map.

It's a config problem, one of the updates added a new section that wasn't initialized properly.

To fix it, go to your Config folder (approximately C:\Users\~yourself~\AppData\LocalLow\Ludeon\Rimworld\Config) and find the one for RealRuins, likely called Mod_1552146295_RealRuins_Mod.xml if you installed it via steam.

The line that's causing the problem is

<planetaryRuinsOptions IsNull="True" />

so delete that line before you try to generate a planet again.
