Q: I don't own the game on Steam, can I still play this mod?

Of course. All my mods can be downloaded here: https://www.mediafire*com/folder/fq1barpa58b5h/Mods (replace the * by a dot)

For GOG users, mods must be installed in
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\This War of Mine\Mods\".

For Epic users, mods must be installed in
"C:\Users\<USER NAME>\Documents\This War of Mine\Mods".

You also need to download Mods.list from the link above so the game recognize the mod.

---

For other mods found on Skymods, you must follow a few steps so the game recognize them:
1 - Extract the archive to the Mods folder (depending on your game version)
2 - Prefix all files inside it e.g. "0000_textures.dat"
3 - Make a "Mods.list" text file inside the Mods folder where you will add the name of the mod(s) you want to install so it look like this:
0000|Custom Characters Overhaul||enabled|local
(<mod id>(prefix)|<mod name>|<mod description>(can be empty)|enabled/disabled|local/workshop)

4 - Launch the game and the mod(s) should load without Steam ;-D

Q: The game won't launch since the last update, what can I do?

It seems that the last update re-introduced a bug preventing from launching overhaul mods like this one without crashing the game 90% of the time.

The only way to run this mod flawlessly is to rollback the game to before the latest update.
Officially there is no way to do that, but unofficially you can get that version from any torrent site by searching "This War Of Mine Final Cut torrent" and downloading both the full game and the hotfix. Link example (100% virus-free and working): www.magnetdl*com/file/4175424/this-war-of-mine-final-cut-v6.0.7-all-dlcs-ost-multi12-fitgirl-repack/ (replace the * by a dot).

Install that version somewhere else than the Steam version so you can play both versions (they use different save folders). Then add the Survival mod manually in the local mod folder.
If you don't know how to do that, check the question right above this one.

The game should now launch without any problem with all its features (new shelters, locations, dlc characters, etc...)... with the exception of the Survival scenarios. Endless War doesn't work on that version either. For them, you need an even older version (Fading Embers).

Note: both the 1.7 (Fading Embers) and 1.8 beta (Final Cut) are available in the mediafire link above for convenience sake.

Q: How do I know if the mod is working?

If the mod has the highest priority (top of the list in the modding center), you should see the new portraits added to the selection screen. That means the mod is loaded properly.

If the checkbox on the selection screen reads "Anniversary Edition mode" instead of "Survival mode", the mod works but the text changed by the mod isn't displayed correctly (new characters names, new scenarios intros and new locations descriptions mostly).

Q: I don’t see the new characters names, what do I do?

Text isn't displayed properly for some people even when having only this mod active. It doesn't affect only this mod but every mods editing the text in some way.

The only known way to fix it is to repack the localization files yourself. For that, you will need to:
1- Download the mod from mediafire: https://www.mediafire*com/folder/fq1barpa58b5h/Mods replace the * by a dot. The link is 100% safe, it's only the mod in a .zip file
2- Extract the archive in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\This War of Mine\Mods\". The local version (non-Steam) of the mod should load automatically.
3- Open the modding tools (Storyteller.exe) and simply repack the mod (blue arrow at the top)

Q: Is this mod compatible with <InsertModNameHere>?

Probably not. This mod makes a lot of changes, and most if not all mods changing the gameplay or just adding new items won’t work with Survival. Custom Characters Overhaul and Music works perfectly with this mod though and are both very much recommended.

Q: Can I play Story scenarios with this mod?

Yes, but some of the story dialogues and location descriptions have been edited to make the dlc characters and locations available outside of the dlc scenarios.

To remedy that, you need to go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\282070\1678380540\" and delete or back up both localization files so that the mod doesn't change the text anymore.

Verifying the game files via Steam will re-download any outdated or missing mod files.
