Strategy Help
When you have questions, needs, worries, always come here with them.

Be careful, spoilers follow.

Raiders: The raiders depend on your current population. Too many children are deadly.

Raiders II: There are regular raiders and one-time extra raiders when you reach certain population limits, those come with a mesage (most of the time).

Early Winters: Early winters are triggered by harvesting everything that can be harvested in summer and autumn. Apparently, too, if you buy it from a trader.

Early Winters II: Harvest nothing in summer, so you minimize the risk of getting an early winter in summer, resulting in the straw harvest failing completely.

Population growth: In every era your population migration increases.

The long Winter: Your people do not just suspect it, Totems really help with the very long Winter.

The long winter total spoiler:

10 totems bring spring :-), the long winter ends after 7 winter periods by itself. If you've held it out for so long, It's possible your 10th totem will bring you spring sometime later.

UPDATE: SOLVED.

An early challenge made me think for a few minutes that it was broken - it is NOT. It just throws very difficult challenges at the player. Thanks!

Re: The Long Winter - I built 6 (six) of the required items plus a stone Menhir. IT needed more. I kept getting the same message " gods must be angry" and the people are talking, etc. Thanks

Is it stuck or will it finally cease. It has been 6 winters. I keep getting the same message " gods must be angry" and the people are talking, etc. Thanks

Thanks Schwifty K. Played another hour and it solved itself.

Thanks.

I'm harvesting nothing during summer. No legumes or gathering tree/berry points... yet my game keeps giving me the "berry froze whilst being picked" and I jump straight from summer into winter. What could I be doing wrong? I'm in my 5th winter of a skipped autumn and my huts are falling into disrepair due to a lack of straw. I'm not even shopping with the trader during summer.

That's weird. It shouldn't always be the berry. How many berries do your people collect in a summer? :D "berry froze whilst being picked" That's your analogous summary, right? The berry message should be: While one of your people is picking a ripe berry, it suddenly gets unusually cold. Winter is coming!

Maybe legumes happened to you then berries then again legumes?

Tip: If the straw houses collapse soon, build fur tents again.
Low on food? If your people are hungry, they will go for berries again and again even if the production limit is 0, if there is nothing else.

Spoiler: Now follows the revelation of some trigger values for the early winters.

It'll help you understand, but you don't have to look at it. In short: the whole thing relaxes after a while. It is intended that the first legumes and berries will trigger more early winters to slow down Neolithic development. Now follows the revelation of some trigger values for the early winters.

Frozen Berry: Berries trigger early winters at: 250, 1k, 2k, 3k, 3,5k, 4k collected
Frozen Pulses/Legume: Pulses like Lentils trigger early winters at: 125, 225, 666, 1666, 2666, 3666, 4666, 5666, 6666 collected
Frozen Fruit: 250, 500, 1k, 1500, 2k, 2500.....

I guess you almost got over the worst of it. :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGlo9LzmOME

Thanks Schwitty. I think my villagers were getting hungry and inadvertantly gathering their own berry produce to satisfy hunger whilst doing the one million and one jobs I had lined up to keep them busy instead. It was sure challenging!

Is it working better now? :D

I've been too scared to try, lol

I seem to be getting year after year of this problem now. My poor villagers look like homeless street peeps. lol.

The only crops I'm harvesting come Autumn is barley and flax. I'm guessing you have early winters coded into one of these during the Copper Age?

The message reveals the trigger :-) The screenshot you posted is about grain. Your houses and towers look still good :D

I had to use skin tents again. Otto has also some skin tents as Backup :D

I had a season of good harvesting so managed to get all the buildings fixed for a year at least. lol. Most of the hunting prey is now a long way from my village and I lose about 15-20% of hunters every winter to hypothermia. There's no time with the shorter seasons outside of winter to do any hunting due to the long walk. It's fun to play but can be rather stressful at times. :)

I really enjoy your mod - just the game which still has priorities wrong always kills mewhen I reach a certain size of settlement, cause somehow it stops prioritizing sowing, harvest and animal slaughtering out of the blue...so I modded your mod a bit to not destroy my 10th savegame ;-D Good job! Do your other mods have also increased raider attacks and some scripting?

Thank you for this. It took me forever but I finally got the last milestones and have a stable happy Beautiful Town.
Such a hard challenging fun and balanced mod. The most frustratingly fun rewarding challenge I’ve had with this game.
Just wanted to say thanks!!
