How to Force the Mod to Update When Steam is Being Picky
For Client Mods That Are Having Trouble Updating

You will want to have these instructions on hand as exiting Steam will be required. Copy and Paste them into Notepad or other word processor.

  1. Unsubscribe from the mod via the workshop page

  2. Close and completely exit Steam (Right Click Steams Icon, and click "Exit Steam")

  3. In Windows Explorer, Navigate to ->

    steamapps > workshop > content > 440900

  4. Find the folder whose name matches that of the Mod ID you are looking for

  5. If found, delete this folder. If not found, then Steam isn't being picky (for once)

  6. Start Steam again

  7. Subscribe to the mod

For Server Mods That Are Having Trouble Updating

Server providers, such as Gportal, will often take up to 12 hours to automatically download a mod update. Even if you try and force the server provider to redownload the mod, it won't actually download the latest version.

Thus, it is highly recommend that you rely on using FTP, rather then the server's GUI for mod installation and updates. FTP lets you gain access to your server folders remotely. If you are at all familiar with Windows File Explorer setups, it's essentially the exact same folder structure, except remotely. Once accessed, you can take your pak file that you downloaded to your computer (from Steam), and place it into the appropriate server Mod folder.

There are many FTP programs out there. If you need a personal recommendation on which to use, I've used WinSCP with great success. WinSCP can be downloaded for free, and there are many (many) available guides across the web on how to use FTP, as well as WinSCP itself. Please visit this link[winscp.net] for access to WinSCP's webpage for more information.

Note: I'm not a professional server admin or network engineer, the use of WinSCP as a software program is just a personal recommendation.
