Team Fortress 2

Bumble Beenie
lllogan 20 Aug, 2019 @ 1:07pm
Just another useless beanie
In every single crate now it seems at least one of the spaces is wasted with a beanie with an outlandish yet boring design that manages to have absolutely no good synergy with any other item in game. This hat isn't cute, it's useless and nigh-on-nobody will use it, just as nigh-on-nobody uses the Lucky Cat Hat or the Cranial Carcharadon or the Lil' Bitey or the Bomb Beanie or the Snowmann &c. &c. &c..

Don't rate this up. Rate up more creative or appealing cosmetics. Stop rating up beanies.

its funny as hell as these creators keep making unoriginal concepts and then go on twitter to cry that their items dont get added in
Diva Dan 20 Aug, 2019 @ 4:16pm

Nice Hot take here gentleman, but whilst you were owning the libs (or something), you didn't even realize you made the best joke: Valve caring about what the community thinks or votes on.

Hey, more votes most likely means a higher placement in however Valve chooses cosmetics, therefore votes do convey the item's chance of inclusion.

Ow my sweet summer child, you have no idea do you. Valve just keeps an internal list of stuff they personally like, which is the main deciding factor of what actually in the game. The whole voting thing is just cute fluff and filler for the community to not feel completely obsolete. (source: multiple scattered Valve interviews/trips). Like the only way you gonna see less "useless beanies" is by becoming at least half as talented as the people who made this item, and make stuff that is liked more by Valve. ... or you could keep pointlessly making salty posts under items that are gonna be popular anyway .

I admit my theory is wrong now, but if you don't like a cosmetic how else do you speak out? It isn't 'pointless' to post a discussion like this, it conveys a point of criticism to the creator of the item, that beanies aren't exactly the best hat type when looking for some type of unanimity in audience appeal, thus hopefully deterring the further creation of beanies.

I mean, you could start of being less of a d*ck tbh. But besides that:

1. This here is a community crowd sourcing platform, all the people on here do this out of sheer passion (since there is 0% guarantee anything will ever get in). So let people make what they wanna make and judge the item on it's own merits. If you wanna be angry because there is too much of X item in the game, be angry at Valve for not caring about TF2 anymore.

2. If you really wanna have an impact on what is added into the game, you just gonna have to motivate people to make more stuff you deem worthy , or join the creative process yourself, things that are not helped by p*issing workshop people off.

I'm being a d*uche?
Listen to me, I'm offering criticism. If you're being defensive because Neo's on your friends list then that's fine but I'm just offering criticism. I know this is a community platform, I know it gets by on what the people give it and I know it is by passion this stuff is made, but some people want cosmetics that actually fit with the style and the other cosmetics of the game , you can't just let anything in.
Secondly, I don't have anything against Neo as a creator if you want to go down that path, he has made some of my favourite cosmetics out there, the Salty Dog, the Rebel Rouser and the Dynamite Abs to name a few, and several duds to me, such as the Hot Dogger or the Bomb Beanie, but nonetheless he is a very respectable and accomplished guy.
Next, Valve do care for Team Fortress 2, they have shown that. I know this point can boil down to subjective views, but just listen to their attitude in their recent[ish? I don't keep track of time very well at all] interview that VNN took chunks of to make into a video. Overall, I just can't direct my anger at Valve.
Another point you raise is that if I truly cared for this then I have to motivate people to do stuff I want or do it myself. a) I am motivating people to do stuff I want. I'm motivating them not to make any more bloody beanies. b) I have tried to make stuff myself. I have no skill at it. I can't even figure out how to make the programs I've used work in the slightest. I have neither the money or the time to get a good software that explains everything and tutorials seem useless to me. I have tried to make my own stuff. I lack several vital skills.
You obviously lack several vital skills in being able to take criticism, or at least let others take it.
