auxiliary cruiser research questions

My main question is what does the research do exactly...since i haven't seen it add any ship variants to my fleet management tab

It gives your civilian ships section variants with weapons. There's a combat version of the Wallenberg class for Starfleet too.

We're aware it's a bit of a weak AP, but nothing concrete yet on the plan to buff it.
