Star Trek: New Civilisations
Feedback after playing as Romulans
Just tried playing as the Romulans. Two things I noted:

1) The Romulan planets all start off with the new colony capital building. I think Romulus and Remus at least should be the planetary administration.

2) Starting populations on these worlds seem a bit low. With the new economy I find it's really important to grow planets slowly, maybe when you have about 200-300 jobs available maximum. I think all these planets start with about 800+ available jobs.

3) The economy of Romulus almost immediately crashes in terms of mineral production meaning you have to manage it all very carefully, but given your planets have such low pops etc it takes a lot of work.

4) Amenities seem almost impossible to produce. A few buildings say "produces amenities" but they produce so little pretty much every planet was running at a deficit of -1,500 amenities even early in the game even with a commercial zone and a holo theatre. Even if the national monument worked (see below) requiring 2 buildings to produce amenities to meet the minimums is just too much building space for every colony to require.

5) Dilithium mines are limited to the specialisation of the mining district only, but this means it can be quite a while until you can start mining dilithium as you can't build it in the city district.

6) The national monument building doesn't actually produce anything, as such pops don't work it.

7) I think for a nation/empire like the Romulans you very quickly find yourself unable to field enough fleets to defend yourself. The game ran ended as I was invaded by two coalitions, neither which with a total fleet strength greater than my naval capacity, but I was running a -100 energy deficit with less than half of my naval cap used.

I free the Remans early to become residence pop, get them populating other planets, I enslave other races. Not canon but works

Working through a bunch of changes that might help here.

No problem, I saw you were active on here so though I would point it out, there's so many races it's entirely possible there's a problem and no one mentions it!

Just FYI, at the moment the two romulan colonies have both the colony administration building and a planetary administration, and you can't demolish either.

Great job on the mod though, I like the fact it's a lot more streamlined and closer to base stellaris than New Horizons, which I think is rather bloated.

Have to admit, the changes to the Romulan start are nice.

You're no longer juggling resources to keep your head above water, and have a chance to actually reach out and explore some. Building up a combat force is easier too...

There is still a huge learning curve for the Stallaris 4.0 and STNC interaction, and I am a slow learner, but at least I don't feel as squeezed as before/

Heh, we're all learning with 4.0!

Well, I am pleased to say that any problems I am having currently seem to be located between my chair and my keyboard. Once that error is corrected I would almost say things are perfect in the mod from a Romulan stand point.

Starting resources are good enough to expand in the early game AND build a limited fleet, while keeping research coming in...
Early middle to middle game is currently next to impossible -IMO- but this is more related to the above issue mentioned, and the broken sliders by Paradox. Once the sliders work again..

Happy days!

Again, fantastic work from you and/or your team! Your attention to details, and work to fix issues while continuously improving your work , while responding to feedback sets the "Gold Standard" for others to reach to!
