How to wash/clean the survivors?

There is a "dirty" stat that they have as well as textures that make them look dirty, but I cannot figure out how to get the survivors clean. Replacing their clothes with clean clothes doesn't fully fix it -- their bodies are still dirty. How does one clean them or get them to clean themselves?
