New Summoning System for Cultist
After playing the mod with a more "hardcore" oriented group (they hated clowns and didn't like any kind of messing around), I'm re-evaluating the usefulness of the clowns. While I'm not going to remove the screw-around aspects, I'm going to try to make the clowns somewhat more useful towards progression/the crew. I want to check in with what subscribers I have though just to make sure I'm not pissing people off/ruining things without knowing it.

The first part of this change will be the summoning system. Currently, cultists are free to summon whatever (all bad things) so long as they have enough blood in their dagger and maybe a summoning item like a stinger. I will change the system to involve placing things (like lit candles, ouija boards, tombstones) down physically in front of the pentagram, and placing a certain summoning item inside of the pentagram; What these item "recipes" are will vary depending on what it is you want to summon. There will be a book that the cultist can consult for basic recipes, but new recipes can also be learned from events in campaign, crafting new books in the blood altar, and so on.

The ritual must then be initiated for a certain amount of time with everything in place. If the ritual is completed successfully, lots of enemy related loot will spawn in and one or two weak enemies will spawn in as well. If something goes wrong during the ritual (a candle burns out, the tombstone says the wrong thing, the ship hits something and the items are knocked away from the pentagram), multiple tough monsters and significantly worse loot will spawn in immediately instead. The pentagram will also be destroyed to discourage intentionally spawning in hordes over and over. I believe this system encourages attempting risky rituals for the prospect of cheap loot, but of course things will inevitably go wrong due to human error and chaos (and ultimately fun) will erupt from something that started with good intentions.

tl;dr it's a system where you can get cheap loot if you complete a high-maintenance ritual, but if you screw it up, more monsters spawn and the pentagram is destroyed

Thoughts on this system? Anything you'd change?

sounds great, however i shall miss filling the ballast tank of the sms olympus with husks, well, at least without much effort, this is a much more balanced system, which would prevent spamming stuff like that in an actual mp lobby with people, who are probably trying to at least somewhat be productive, so im all for it

i have the same thoughts as slime incarnate.

these mechanics sound a lot more interesting and balanced than just putting bloody dagger into pentagram and summoning radioactive mudraptors to kill everyone
the cultist summoning any% speedruns have struck submarine after submarine, this will hopefully make it harder for cultists to obliterate the sub with a single ritual

I like these Mechanics they sound more fun.

Unsure how realistic this is at this point since there are unfortunately a lot of logic contradictions with the way NearbyItems works on normal items. You may have noticed now that you have to use specific items in the altar to start summonings. Still trying to get this to work though.

Finally making some progress on this now that I've figured out how to make instruction booklets. Implementation is underway.
