Unfortunately i don’t really understand what you are trying to convey to us here.

The “Factory Research Bench” is both a standalone Research Benach as well as a linkable for all your other Research benches.

This means that the “Factory Research Bench” functions as a speed booster to other Research Benches (just like the Multi-Analyzer) but also offers an additional Research spot for your pawns.
Just like any other Research benach the research speed on it can be improved by things like the Multi-Analyzer.

I get that. When I built it, it didn't seem to either improve research speed or unlock the higher tiers of research, even though they specified that having the Factory Research Bench was the prerequisite. Not until I put it adjacent to my hi-tech research bench.

Yeah it has to be linked to it as if it is a multianalyser

@firestorm I hate to be picky but the multi-analyser only has to be nearby.

I know, it is linked if it is close enough that you see a white line joining it to the bench when you have it or the bench selected.

Maybe just not call it a bench, it's confusing

Any idea how to forbid pawns from using it as a research terminal? it is very inefficient (it only has half productivity of a normal bench), and I would rather have them man something else if bench is already in use.

@ignis[ru] You can forbid them from being in that area. Just that one square. Remove the square from the allowed area.

I was stuck for about an hour trying to figure out why my pawns wouldn't research the later tier industrial stuff even though I had the Factory Research Bench- turns out its because of what OP has said, I didn't have it at the end of my research bench. It wasn't working even though it had a white line to the research bench, it has to be at the end.

The position of linkables should have no impact on the function, as long as the white indicator line is drawn it should work. The later research requires both the “Factory Research Bench” and the “Multi-Analyzer”, so both of them need to be present at the same Research Bench for this to work.

My assumption would be that you were missing something.
Should this not be the case please post a screenshot of you non working setup alongside a Hugs Lib Trace.

I just had this issue and can better explain it.

The factory research bench needs to be *touching* a research bench in order to work, placed right next to it, rather than a distance. Place it *one* tile away from a bench, the research doesn't happen.

You can't just place it *somewhere near* a bench like a multi-analyzer and have it work.

If it's not an issue on your end, it might be a mod conflict, like from High Tech Laboratory, or something like More Linkables.

I just know nothing was happening until I placed it *next* to a research bench for me.

Can confirm that this is still the case.
