Soft Lamps
How does one go about using this with artificial lightsources?
This might not be the best place to ask for help, but I figured I'd try.

Example: Night scene outside, a person is holding a flare as the only light source. Apart from the dim moonlight (or, perhaps absolutely nothing), there is only the red light from the flare to illuminate the scene.

How would I render a flare in GMod using these soft lamps? Do I even use soft lamps? If I do, do I simply place a lamp in four directions pointing around the flare? I'd like to hear how others dealt with this scenario. I'd just like to expand my knowledge in making GMod posters!

Thank you in advance to anyone who reads this!

I was thinking of those, but I don't think they'd have the same amount of quality as how Soft Lamps do it. Especially the lack of soft poster rendering.

Hi, really late reply, but I saw this technique in a speedbuild video by Brezz. He uses a small plastic cube prop with the glow material on it (lights/white) and uses the lightbounce tool on the colored cube.

Oh, wow. Thank you so much! That's actually a very clever way of using lightbounce. This actually revitalized my GMod poster rendering because it just opened up so many ideas to me.

Seriously dude, this is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥' useful, thanks!

I apologize for the extremely late necro of this thread, but I have found out the people behind soft lamps also helped around with the 'Life Mod' addon as well. In there, you can manually adjust the graphics of your game. I managed to make the shadows in the base game with this addon become extremely high quality and sharp, removing any fuzziness I once was plagued with in the shadows. This could help with the base quality of the shadows and artificial lighting in the game.
