SRTS Expanded: RotorCraft
This topic has been pinned, so it's probably important

What should I add next?
I want to preface this by saying I'm not going to be adding a bunch of slightly different Rotorcraft just for aesthetics. While I am not opposed to adding more unique Rotorcraft, they should fill a niche that isn't currently filled. One such unfilled niche, at the time of writing, is a long range faster rotorcraft. This is going to be filled in with the Mako, a tilting rotor airframe that is more akin to a fixed wing aircraft.

But does anyone have any suggestions for any niche that I don't currently have filled.

Hi! If I can drop a little idea, how about look at the very basic of helicopter technology, instead of pushing to high tech?

An early industrial rotogyro for 1 pawn, for example, that would be easy to unlock and cheap to run, for transfering really valuable single items and colonists. An even early Da Vinci style aerial screw, or d'Amecourt steam helicopter, who might be unable to move anywhere (basically it would need an anchor to go up and down only), but would allow a couple pawns to have an elevated platform for surveillance or shooting range.

In alternative, an UAV helicotper, able to fly without a pilot?

The textures seem rather pixilated for rimworlds style. if you ever get the chance, you might want to smooth out some of the pixels and add some shading and the signature "rimworld outline". It is an interesting mod none the less however.

As for new Heli types, perhaps a more advanced bomber gunship, one that has significantly more bombardment capacity at the cost of both cargo and passenger capacity.

Actually, a massive cargo carrier would be cool too, something like a quad-rotor transport.

Thank you for this mod, IRL military rotorcraft still have this niche in poorer countries versus various guerilla forces that lack means to engage them. Rimworld parallels this with the pre-gunpowder factions.

I think there is space for a one-man, cheap, fragile, high efficency, low cargo craft for doing solo jobs. A modern ultralight helicopter would fit the bill, Alternatively, some sort of autogyro or a human powered aircraft.

Also, please see this link for inspiration

The only niches i see from this list are the (in theory faster, fuel guzzling) jetpowered VTOLs
and the various (lightweight short distance) "AirJeep" projects such as the:
Curtiss-Wright VZ-7
Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar
Piasecki VZ-8 Airgeep

what about a rotorcraft with mounted guns that is heavily armored? like, powered by an internal chemfuel generator not for bombing runs but to drop in and shoot everyone, maybe even using the colonist(s) inside

actually, how about it? a rotorcraft that is also a generator, to have a mobile minibase. a cookiecutter or a nurse with an actual powerplant, maybe even adjustable in power level that consumes it's own fuel and generates...well, power to use for literaly anything like cooking, turrets etc
