Sid Meier's Civilization VI

[GS] Leugi's City Styles Pack
Detailed instructions for file replacements
Okay so I saw a lot of people who have been confused about how the replacements files work and I also was confused at first but have since got it working. While there may be a more "efficient" way of doing things that I don't know of, this is just the method I did that works for me.

Starting off, the files in the replacements folder are the files you use to replace the BASE GAME files. Every individual file you will find in each of the replacements folders has an identically named file located in the base game files. The easiest way to find the files is to use the "Browse Local Files" feature in your steam library although if you're willing to dig through your folders, starting from your file explorer works fine.

First locate the mod folder in your workshop files so you can get the replacement files if you have a lot of mods like I do and don't want to sort through the folders to find it, the folder number for the mod is 2169097417. When you open the replacements folder you will find multiple sub-folders that correspond to other folders in the main game files such as "Base" For the main game files, "Expansion 1", Expansion 2" etc... for the dlc's if you have them. Inside each of these folders contains the specific files you will be replacing lets use the file named "cultures.artdef" inside the folder "expansion 1" for an example.

Once you locate the file from the mod in the mod workshop folders you will also need to locate the corresponding file in its respective folder. "Browse Local files" is the easiest way to do this and when you get there you will find the folders labeled "Base" and "DLC." "Base" is for the vanilla game files while the "DLC" folder contains all the subfolders for additional content if you have it installed. Since we are looking for "expansion 1" in this instance we will be using the folder "DLC" but little changes when replacing the base game files.

Once you enter the folder named for the replacements folder you're looking for, there should be another folder labeled "artdefs." This is where the file we are replacing is located. Once you click on it you will find a bunch files inside. DO NOT TOUCH ANY OF THE FILES THAT DO NOT SHARE THE SAME NAME AS THE FILES FROM THE MOD THAT YOU ARE USING TO REPLACE. Since the specific file we are using to replace is "cultures.artdef" from the "expansion 1" folder we are going to remove and discard the file* named "cultures.artdef" from THE MAIN GAME FILES located here, and drag and drop the new file into the folder to replace it. Repeat this for all the individual files that you have the DLC for. for instance if you do not have gathering storm you do not need to worry about the replacements folder named "Expansion 2"

*its also come to my attention that simply drag and dropping the replacement file(s) into the regular game folder and then letting your computer automatically replace the files works just fine as well.

Hope this helps you all out let me know if you have any issues.

I have so many questions I think i am going to blow up - okay... number one .... why is it that somethings change but not others... columbia has the different city style but not the monument difference... this is the first of many questions btw

@iam_aywc The way the artdefs work only like half of the citiy buildings change unless you do the replacements. Unless you did the process I outlined above and replace the regular game files with the ones from the replacements folders in the mod folder you won't get the full effect of the mod.

Thanks a lot for this. :wololo: I'm wondering if you could show us a screenshot/example of what the sprawl looks like before and after applying it? I followed your steps exactly replacing the files, but not sure I quite see the difference

@beef stroganoff my version is just the one for regular replacements. I don't use the extended sprawl as I have other mods already installed that increase it. One of them being the increased city sprawl mod. I've never used the increased sprawl version myself

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but the new industrial styles of Korea and Rome don't work for me. I installed the mod, replaced the necessary folders in the folder with the game, new skins appeared, but it feels like something is wrong. I create a new game for Korea or Rome of the Industrial or New Era and the buildings look like the default, European ones. Although otherwise it seems to work, the Turks have yurts and so on. Sorry about the Google translator.

@wow.alister This hasn't been updated in a bit as one of the updates Leugi put out pus the replacements in a file that you have to unzip in order to get all of them. That's the best I can explain really.

@cozmicclockwork Thanks a lot for creating this thread, it's very helpful. However there's one thing for me that isn't working (apologies for the n00b question). I am playing on a Mac, via Steam, but when I go to either the folder in Application Support or in steam/common/civ6 (i.e. either in the Steam Application Support folder or the Civ 6 Application Support folder), **I do not see the corresponding files that are to be replaced with Leugi's files**.

TLDR, I can't find the files I'm supposed to be overwriting with Leugi's versions. Can you give any guidance here?

@Minimal_Gravitas you have to go through the steamapps folder not the one just labeled steam and then after clicking common, you'll find another folder for "Sid Meier's Civilization 6". The easiest way to do this is by right clicking the game in your steam library and then finding "browse local files in the dropdown menu as it should take you right exactly where you should need to be.

@cozmicclockwork Thanks for your reply. I am going where you say to... I think it might be a Mac thing because Civ 6 doesn't appear as a folder. The contents of "common" is an application and two differently named folders.

I might see if I can show hidden folders via Terminal... but as it is it isn't a folder where I can drop in files, it's just an application (i.e. Civilization 6.app). Anyway thanks again, I'll see what I can work out on Mac and maybe post here if I find a solution, just for anyone else.

@cozmicclockwork Sorry to bug you again; I've been thinking again about your guide. As you said to, I navigate to the folder in steamapps/common/SMC6/ and in this folder I have the "Sid Meier's Civlization 6.app" file and then a "2K Launcher" folder and a "Launchpad" folder (three items total). What I don't see is a pathway that resembles the structure in Leugi's "Replacements" -- just those three items.

I plopped in the "Base" and "DLC" folders from Leugi's "Replacements" folder (so now that steamapps/common/SMC6/ folder has 5 items total). I couldn't have put any of the sub-folders because they all have the same names ("ArtDefs" and "cultures.artdef"), so I assume this is the closest I can get to "replacing" the original game files.

I didn't get any warning that I was replacing an existing file, so I don't think I did it right. I'm not convinced that the Mac version works the same way as the PC one.

**Do you know a way I could test that these replacement files are working the way they're supposed to?**

I played a game successfully, and civilisations did have distinct-looking cities, but I currently have no way of distinguishing between the incomplete and complete versions of the mod. No sweat if you don't have the time to deal with this, I just figured I'd ask. I may post a comment in the general thread too. Thanks again for your guide!

^^ Sorry to spam this chat so much, but in case some poor sap finds himself in the same position as I was in, **the solution to the Mac problem is to right-click the .app file and hit 'show contents' and this will take you to the main game files**

Thx again @cozmicclockwork for making this thread.

@Minimal_Gravitas when I check to see if the mod is working I just load up a quick game with a civ that has one of the new distinct city styles in the medieval/renaissance era, (in this case the ottomans). If the mod files are incomplete you will see that not all of the buildings will be using the new modded assets. For instance with the Ottomans while you will see about half of the buildings will be in the green middle eastern style for the classical buildings and ancient felt for the interspersed ancient ones and the other half would be n the vanilla style.

TLDR: If you correctly did the file replacements then all civs that receive changes from the mod will not have any vanilla assets in their cities.
