Failing that, yes, if you die all the time it means the die was cast before you've made the save.
Or you could, you know, concede defeat. I am not teaching you how to have fun, just explaining myself. As it stands now, the Hunt is pretty much a head on assault on a being far far more powerful than yourself. Devs, in my opinion, are already too generous with chances for this kind of foolhardy enterprise to succeed.
Not saying there are no reasons to go hunting against all odds, for personal reasons or for "the greater good". I never fail to invent those myself, but my excuse is that I always end playthrough no matter the outcome. Young/pseudo third is a questionable badge of recognition for those desperate and/or stupid.
If you want to change it, you would have to reload months before.
They ate 2nd gens so of course they can be diablerized in turn. Scenarios for hunts are plausable too, but I feel their risks are underepresented. I mean, most of the bookmarked and clan-recommended characters would probably wait for better opportunity. You know, long-winded centuries-long plot rather than charging butt-♥♥♥♥♥ into unknown.
Some would charge, no doubt. Out of duty, temper, grief, greed, derangement, all of the above. I don't play those beyond meeting their major objectives, they are too restrictive/boring/uncomfortable to drag for centuries waiting for event. But it would be not unrealistic for one of them to succeed.
