Lack of Traders

So I've just started using the mod after seeing a Streamer (SplatterCat, I think?) use it and I've noticed I am seeing NO traders at all and only a single trade ship has passed by my entire game. Is this normal? I'm surrounded by friendly/neutral factions within 2-3 days' ride.
