Derailed v5
Derailed - Review by Endless
★★★ 3/5: Looks nice, doesn't play that nice

Derailed is a fairly traditional and simple campaign in its execution. A dark atmosphere with an abandoned design throws us into a world of despair and abandonment in the midst of the zombie apocalypse. It follows the most basic steps possible to idealize solid maps, but doesn't do much beyond that.

The visuals are attractive and simple. They are not too flashy and there is little detail in most of the maps. It's a strange way to describe it, but the maps feel sanitized. They are pretty to look at and there are a couple of recognizable areas on each map, but other than that it doesn't feel like a zombie apocalypse. It just feels like a bad Monday.

The graphics aren't the problem, but what feels a bit stifling is the challenging gameplay that consists of shooting hordes and hordes, and the lack of interaction and spirit in the design. The campaign on Normal and Advanced is a bit of a pain due to the number of enemies and low ammo, but add to that the fact that the paths aren't even well marked, and the major markers are small arrows that are easy to miss.

There is little interaction on the map, and although I don't believe that a story should be designed from beginning to end for a campaign, I do believe in scenic storytelling, and this campaign doesn't provide any of that.

It's not bad, but it could have been much better.
