Unit Naming Scheme Suggestions
Know a thing or two about historical unit naming? Did I completely misunderstand the organization of the United States Army? Feel free to drop some suggestions here!

For modern units that you use the regiment, battalion, division naming convention, you can probably get away with google translating the naming convention for all the civs. If you have HOI4, you can check the division naming convention there.

For Chinese pre-modern units, I'll use Han dynasty army organisation for the naming. A single unit would be a "bu" and a combined unit is "jun" (for reference, modern units would go ying, lu, shi corresponding with battalion, brigade, division).

After looking at the organisation of the modern Norwegian Armed Forces, I'd like to make suggestions for Norway's modern unit names. Not sure if you want the names in native languages, but here they are all in Norwegian. Note that the lowercase is intentional and in accordance with Norwegian grammar.

RECON:
Single: 1. oppklaringstropp
Corps: 1. oppklaringskompani
Army: 1. oppklaringsbataljon

MELEE:
Single: 1. infanteritropp
Corps: 1. infanterikompani
Army: 1. infanteribataljon and/or [city name] bataljon / [cityname]bataljonen (no space between the words on the latter one)

FIELD CANNON:
Single: [cityname]s 1. kanontropp
Corps: [cityname]s 1. batteri
Army: [cityname]s 1. kanonregiment
The "s" directly after the city name indicates possessive.

MACHINE GUN:
Single: 1. maskingeværtropp
Corps: 1. maskingeværkompani
Army: 1. maskingeværbataljon

ANTI-CAVALRY:
Single: 1. panserverntropp
Corps: 1. panservernkompani
Army: 1. panservernbataljon

LIGHT CAVALRY:
Single: 1. kavaleritropp
Corps: 1. kavalerieskadron
Army: 1. kavaleribataljon

HELICOPTER:
Single: 1. ving
Corps: 1. skvadron
Army: 1. luftving

HEAVY CAVALRY:
Single: 1. pansertropp
Corps: 1. pansereskadron
Army: 1. panserbataljon

SIEGE:
Single: 1. artilleritropp
Corps: 1. batteri
Army: 1. artilleribataljon

NAVAL MELEE:
Single: KNM [unique name] (in case Norway doesn't have any, i plan to suggest unique names at some point as well)
Corps: 1. flotilje
Army: 1. flåte

NAVAL RANGED:
Single: KNM [unique name]
Corps: 1. eskadron
Army: 1. flåte

NAVAL RAIDER:
Single: KNM [unique name] (all Norwegian submarines to date have solely had names starting with U. don't know if that is possible or easy to code)
Corps: 1. ubåtflotilje
Army: 1. ubåtflåte

NAVAL CARRIER:
Single: KNM [unique name]
Corps: 1. hangarskipflotilje
Army: 1. hangarskipflåte

AIR:
Air Fighter: 1. kampskvadron
Air Bomber: 1. bombeskvadron

SUPPORT:
Supply Convoy: Stridstrenbataljonen / 1. stridstrenbataljon
Observation Balloon: 1. ballongkompani
Drone: 1. droneskvadron
Anti-Air Gun: 1. luftvernbatteri
Mobile SAM: 1. missilbatteri
Military Engineer: Ingeniørbataljonen / 1. ingeniørbataljon

Ooo, also, I suppose with pre-modern units from more "barbaric" or disorganised Civs, like the druidic/pagan peoples of Gaul and early viking Norway, you could have naming schemes like:

SINGLE UNIT: Band of "_"
CORPS: "_" Force
ARMY: Army of "_"

("_" referring to "Gaesetae" or "Berserkers" or just even the defaults like "Warriors")

To be honest, you could even do the same with the Aztecs and Maya and such, being that they weren't a disorganised peoples as a whole, but their warrior culture itself didn't necessarily call for a formal military or anything

Okay so now I'm no longer a twit with 1300 hours in-game that somehow didn't know support units can't be upgraded to corps or armies, I suggest for the English Medics to be called any of the following:

- 1st Armoured Medical Regiment
- 1 Medical Regiment
- 1 Medical Squadron
- 1st Logistic Brigade

I imagine the final one there is the most unique and thus the most worth adding, if at all :)

Are you still working on this, and are you looking for active collaboration? It seems like a fun project to help out if I could, but I wouldn't want efforts to be in vain.

@Megalodong - yep! just working my way through updating other mods that needed work done for the latest patch.

I've looked through some Wikipedia pages and made a list of possible names for Russian units. For land units I included historical names from imperial period, that are not named after cities (as well as some naming patterns). The names are provided in English and in transliterated Russian. For naval units I listed historical ship names.

It would be great if barbarian clan names could be assigned to barbarian units. It's impossible to tell which clan barbarians come from currently.

Alternatively a settings option to opt out of barbarian renames would be good. Ran this in combination with Wildlife mod at one point, and naming was pretty cursed.

Hello, if this mod is still in active development, I'd like to offer my help in translating names and providing unit naming schemes for Poland
