From The Depths

Faction Craft - Neter's Edge

Absolutely Stunning
I remember a few years ago when I was just starting off in From the Depths, there was this one guy called 'Videogames' who built a bunch of awesome-looking faction-based ships and whatnot, and I loved to play with all of them in the designer or run through the campaign using those designs. For a long time I thought that he was the king of creative design in From the Depths, which is why I was sad to see him leave.

These ships all blow those other designs completely out of the water (both figuratively and literally, lol), and I love how realistic yet unique a lot of these ships look, as if they're all part of a real-world fleet. Obviously some of these ships are, by your admittance, replicas of real ships, and I don't mind that at all. In fact, I love to see a few faithful replicas mixed in (as long as it's made clear which ships are intended to be replicas/heavily inspired by real designs, and which ones are more original designs with only subtle inspiration from real-world boats and weapon systems). Either way, this is a fantastic line-up, and I look forward to seeing what other designs will be coming next.

Two questions:
1: Do you have any plans to build aircraft and land vehicles to go with the current line-up of ships?
2: As I mentioned in parentheses above, would you be able to more clearly indicate which ships are intended to be replicas of / heavily inspired by real-world designs, and which ones are more original? I do know you mention it in the descriptions of some of the ships, but not for others, and it can get a bit confusing at times to differentiate.

P.S: Happy New Year! May your 2021 be free of Covid and full of joy!

1) I'm not sure about land vehicles, although I'll probably build some buildings (and already have) but I have someone working on a plane and will probably design a mid price jet at some point.
2) The crafts that have some real world ship that they are primarily based off are:
The Kalinin
Herald
Arteon
Astor
Edge
Mountain
Genesis
Iceberg (not based off a specific ship but there are many that look similar)
Vector (probably will be released in a day or two)
There's one other ship that I'm forgetting about because I didn't post it but it's mildly based off the Visby I think.
I do look at other ships designs a lot, and a lot of the other ships contain aspects of other ships.
I'm happy that you enjoy my ships and are excited for the campaign, I wish I could get out the information better and get some actionable feedback on the ships, but I'm lazy and don't feel like getting a discord to get the information out there so hearing someone say that they enjoy combat against my ships is really good to hear.
Happy New Year to you as well, and I hope your year is also Covid free and great!

No problem at all for the wait on the full campaign release, the ships alone are already enough to make my experience on FTD all the more exciting. I love going through the Neter campaign with them and steamrolling through the DWG in realistic boats, not to mention having simulated battles between them in the designer (I especially love to put fleets of the replica ships against one another for a Cold War-style face-off, e.g. the Kalinin (Kirov) vs Mountain (Ticonderoga) with their escorts). I believe the ship you're talking about that is inspired by the Visby may be the Stal, or at least that's the closest one I can see to it. So just to make sure I have it accurate, the ships you listed and their real-world inspirations are:

Kalinin -> Kirov Battlecruiser
Herald -> Zumwalt Destroyer
Arteon -> Slava Missile Cruiser
Astor -> Independence Corvette
Edge -> Udaloy Destroyer
Mountain -> Ticonderoga Light Cruiser
Iceberg -> Arleigh Burke Destroyer
Stal -> Visby Corvette

The Vector is as you said unreleased so it shall remain a mystery until then, but for the Genesis it's actually a bit hard for me to find its real-world inspiration on my own. Maybe I just don't know where to look for it lol.

Either way, looking forward to the campaign whenever it comes, and again, no rush at all! The ships by themselves make for amazing content already. I can't wait to see what you release next!

The Visby is actually unpublished (my bad) the Genesis is based off the Shirane. You're spot on with the other ships though,

The new ships are looking fantastic as well! I'm just still having trouble keeping up with which ones are near-replicas of real ships, and which ones are more on the original or 'loosely inspired' side. I was able to see right away that the helicopter destroyer is based on the Hyuga and/or Izumo, but that's about it.

The faraday is based off the khareef, the Guass is based off the lider, the carpathian is based off the long beach, the trajan is based off the fmpv, the delta is based off the freedom. The phaeton and jupiter are both based off concept designs, I don't think the ship the phaeton is based off even has a name, and the ship the jupiter is based off is just a number I think.

Surprisingly, the rest of the ships aren't based off anything. I've had different people say that the battleship is based off of one ship or another, but it isn't based off anything.

I'm glad you're still enjoying the faction, I've been moving away from near replicas for the most part.
