Loving the mod and no issues at all so far but on the Vyazma mission hit a brick wall. There are a lot of soviet unit that counterattack and most have survivor - which makes it much harder to break through. I have slowly ot tactics to counter (ignore centre, pincer top and bottom) and can wipe them out eventually and take the main objective but can get nowhere the final victory hex which is way across the map - takes until turn 13 or 14 to get through and movement is so restricted I cannot get any forces there for turn 20. Have tried various tactics and force makeups but with only some improvement and nowhere near enough to clear a path through. Normally I clear a map first time. This I am on try 10 or 11. Anyone else had trouble? Any tips?

i playtested all up to 1942 and AC historical myself so far and didn´t have any trouble.

i think u are referring to 1941 Vyazma, that is near the end of 1941.
u get like 5 or 6 Aux infantry in the north-wetsern corner of the map, i reinforce those with some recon and artillery and take care of all the northern area of the map. u can have 1 of the mobile airfields go up there too if ur struggling and have ur airforce help out with the heavy tanks.

Hi, yes 1941 - I did similar tactics.


I can eventually break through and wipe everything out but the issue is the turn limit. Due to the 2 waves of enemy mechs (something like 30+ tanks, armoured cars, and mobile artillery and mobile AA) and the fact nearly all have survivor trait (no overrun) it takes until at least turn 11/12 to get through them all and take the first victory hexes. The issue is that there is then no time to actually get to the final victory hex towards the middle back part of the map. Tried around 12 times now (am very persistent!) - all other missions I did first or second time.

BTW there are a lot of units that either weren't there or were very rare in 1941 which make up most of their mobile forces!

btw tried different force makeups but the one that worked the best was 3 divebombers, one fighter (went with this later as it was good for mopping up survivors with 1 strength, as was arty and armoured cars), 3 artillery, 2 armoured cars, 4 infanttry, 4/5 tank - with at least two tank overstrength to be able to do significant damage to the heavies - 2 had no retaliation heroes, no anti tank as 2 of the tanks have AT support heroes. All units are at least 2/3 star and nearly all have 3 heroes with decent traits. 20K prestige.

There are several missions in 42 that also have an inordinate amount of units with the survivor trait. While I understand the wish to have a certain level of difficulty in these missions, for me it doesn't really add difficulty as much as just making the mission a grind. If the purpose is to make the blitzkrieg tactic unusable? Ok, it serves the purpose. But at best it is a gimmick. Considering that for me, getting a hero with the survivor trait usually results in that unit being destroyed in the same turn it receives it nearly 50% of the time. For there to be upwards of 70-80% of a single tank corp to have the trait, seems unrealistic.

Having said that I applaud your work and dedication to this mod and this game.
