Left 4 Dead 2

Red Tide
Kyle's Review of "Red Tide" - 4/5
Four amazing maps, one letdown. 4/5 stars.

Red Tide seemed to fly under the radar in 2021, but it's a great campaign that deserves more attention. The environments have interesting layouts and good pacing, and it somehow manages to make Florida look gorgeous. Map 2 is a highlight for me because it builds its gloomy, rainy atmosphere perfectly. Crescendo events are also varied and the finale is a wonderfully unique gauntlet on the beach. As a nice bonus, the custom graffiti is truly superb!

I have several nitpicks I could mention, but Map 4 is the campaign's biggest flaw. It's a surprisingly barren and repetitive nursing home, lacking the environmental detail and sense of forward momentum that the other chapters are so good at. It doesn't ruin the campaign at all, but it certainly drags on.

To use a food analogy, Red Tide is like a Five Guys burger with no condiments or seasoning. It's damn good and I'll go back for more, but it's missing that extra spark. Still, it sure beats McDonald's!
