Mod Design Notes
Greetings! Thank you for participating in the effort to make The Ancient World at War (AWAW) a better mod! It's rather an extensive mod, adding a great deal of content which will take some time to get comfortable with. The items below are provided to give you some idea of what was being looked at, and drove decisions over what to include and what to omit from AWAW.

Notes:

1. AWAW was designed to be the opposite book end to "The World at War (WAW)" mod that covers the second half of the game in the same way that AWAW covers the first half.

2. The mod adds a tremendous amount of new units, buildings, resources, etc. Much effort was put into the design of the mod to create relationships between this new content, so that things that were added had some use, other than things a Civ would stockpile for no particular reason.

This is why you'll see in the City View UI, lots of shaded buildings that can't be built, primarily because the prerequisite resources aren't available. This design criterion was put in to demonstrate that in many cases it simply wasn't possible to build certain things in cities because there wasn't what was needed on hand.

I also thought it was a good idea to set things up where it just wasn't possible to construct every building in every city. There isn't enough time. This also seems more realistic to me.

Also, a lot of the buildings, especially in Ancient and Classical Eras are meant to be "quick and easy" - they don't provide a large bonus, and don't cost a lot of Hammers - but, they're available with no prereq resources, so that cities will be able to construct something that does help a little, and allow the city to build something besides the "Growth" process. Basically, it was better to build something that provides minimal benefits rather than simply growing more food. Also, we're talking about tiny villages surrounded by a whole lot of nothing out there. In the Ancient and probably first half of the Classical Eras, you wouldn't expect these farmers to be building anything more extensive than wooden huts with very limited functionality. I added a lot of these buildings to those Eras with this in mind.
