Traditional Tenets
Is the Rite tenet worth a tenet slot?
For anyone who may not have seen it yet, Rite is a new tenet in 1.6 that's selectable if your parent faith has an existing spiritual head of faith, your new faith will have a spiritual head of faith, and you don't have any of a list of major doctrinal conflicts with your parent faith. It causes the new faith to inherit the parent faith's head of faith, and to gain Ecumenism if the parent faith has it.

After the new faith has been created with those effects, the Rite tenet grants a minor bonus to same-faith character opinion, a head of faith opinion penalty, and a discount on the piety cost of your next new faith. Those permanent effects feel underwhelming to me compared to what I could get with a third normal tenet.

Since the Rite tenet implies a spiritual head of faith, perhaps a better place for it would be as a fourth option in the doctrine_head_of_faith group. Set the same parameters as the existing doctrine_spiritual_head, so the new doctrine still counts as "spiritual head of faith" for most conditions that check, and add the parameters from Rite to trigger head-of-faith inheritance.

I agree that it'd be better to be a doctrine, perhaps within a new group covering connections, religious group, or views of other religious traditions.

interactions with other cultural/religious traditions vary alot irl some don't care about others, interact and syncreticize freely, fundementalism, pluralism, etc.

there's also things like how some of the groups, the buddhist/hindu spheres for instance, happily coexist or even can be practiced by the same individuals. or like how a lot of the hindu faiths are different branches of the same overall mythologies and stories centering on different gods or concepts. why not include a something similar to the rite tenant for them that allows very cheap switching between faiths.

I'll consider this, it seems like a reasonable option to me. We'll see what I can come up with. Thanks for the suggestion.

Though it'll really depend on if the various checks in the game check for a the head of faith doctrine or the doctrine parameters. If there are a lot of checks looking for the right head of faith doctrine, then changing Rite to a Head of Faith doctrine would break all of that. I may need to find another option if I want to make Rite into a doctrine.

Unfortunately, looking at the code, I don't believe it's feasible to put an extra doctrine in the head of faith category--there are too many "has_doctrine = doctrine_spiritual_head" instances, rather than checking for the spiritual_head_of_faith parameter. I'd need to change a lot of code to make that work, more than I really want for this mod. Another option is to put it in the syncretism category, though in theory a base game custom faith can have Rite and a syncretism and this would prevent that, so it's not a great option either.

With that said, there may be something else I can do... put in a dummy tenet in the "Head of Faith" category called "Rite", and move the current tenet into the "special doctrine" category. Then I use an on_action on faith creation that will fire whenever you make a faith with "Rite" as head of faith to swap it out for Spiritual Head of Faith, and add the special doctrine to the faith. Something worth thinking about and testing. I want to put out an update first to fix some new Iberian events, but it's something I may consider next.
