Is there a way to connect multiple storage systems?

Im trying to go for a symmetrical look, but i cant use connectors to connect the left and right system together.

Am i doing something wrong or is this just not something i can really do?

A storage system can only contain one Storage Heart. The game will prevent you from trying to connect multiple storage systems together.
