Info/Updates
I'll be adding additional detail and info regarding the things I add to the mod here.

0.99.6
This version adds another, guaranteed way to obtain Stripes for your crew, whom I added as a fun little Cameo/Easter Egg in a previous update. Players seem to have gotten more excited about her than I expected, and expressed their frustration with how rare her visits to the Outpost were, originally.

From now on, she'll be there pretty much all of the time - if you can find her, that is.
She's easily spooked, and will hide for a while before mustering the courage to speak.
As a crew member, Stripes can get quite attached and emotional. She fights with her claws like a Purrowler; she can hit a little harder, but can't run quite as fast.

A huge thanks to Lofty for creating all of the Lua and behavior magic that allowed Stripes to do all of these things ♥

Some other notable changes since I last updated this thread:
  • There are now Neki scan descriptions for all vanilla items
  • The claw tiers got a major overhaul, more details below
  • The Neki clothes crafting should make more sense now
  • Nightvision shouldn't randomly flicker anymore

The Neki Claws changes:
  • Their damage now scales properly by tier, instead of pre-set numbers
  • New Digging Claws that damage blocks, craftable using T5 Rapid ones
  • The elemental ones are now Tier 6, and their damage is elemental
  • The bleed debuff they cause (T4 and higher) now stacks
  • (FU only) All claw tiers are now Hunting Weapons

0.98.7
I suppose I should really call this update "Christmas in July" :)
While making more scan descriptions, I stumbled upon the disabled holiday-themed outfit, and felt like making a Neki version of it, I hope you'll like it ^-^

I've made some changes to the way the Pounce tech works, it now has a "charge" that lets you vary the jump's distance by holding 'up'+'down' for longer or shorter, up to 0.5s. The way it's configured is still not final and I'd greatly appreciate feedback and suggestions on how to configure/balance it better.

The tail masks should now cover all of the loungeable in-game (vanilla) objects, i.e. tails shouldn't stick out of anything you can sit or lay on. If I missed some objects (that aren't a part of other mods), please let me know :)

0.98.6
The scan descriptions no longer lie about "purrfering meat raw" - the Neki can now safely enjoy tasty raw meat to their heart's content!
To balance this change out, I've made all vanilla foods that contain Chocolate or Coffee highly poisonous to the Neki - similar to how real-life felidae risk severe Theobromine or Caffeine poisoning respectively, so be ready to deal with the consequences if your Neki can't resist snacking on chocolates or licking coffee!

0.98.3
This update focuses mainly on the Neki Pod's functionality.
The Pod can now tell species apart, and the fact that it's configured for a certain purpose is now more clearly defined. Be warned - unless your species is explicitly supported by the Neki Pod, you will drown if you stay inside for too long.

To other species mod authors:
If you wish to add your species to the list of species that don't drown in the pod (for example, robotic species), add the following patch:
`/objects/neki/nekipod/nekipod.object.patch`
[{"op": "add", "path": "/drownImmunity/<speciesName>", "value": true}]

0.98.1
An enormous shoutout and huge thanks to R|ambo for dedicating a lot of time and effort to my shenanigans and writing huge amounts of Lua code to make things work the way I wanted ♥

Neki no longer replaces a vanilla dialog script to achieve dialogue-related things that I needed the species to have. This means that going forward, other mods' (such as FU and various translation mods) functionality won't be affected when they need to replace said script. Previously I was doing my best to account for as many as I could, but there are just too many; and now that isn't a concern anymore.

The Neki story is now more complete, multiple new codices were added throughout the Miniknog Stronghold mission, which should allow you as a Neki player get a better idea of what happened before, and why. I've also added a little background text in the actual mod's files, in case you are that inclined to find out more ^-^

The Neki Wall Bed (craftable under the "Beds" tab of the Workbench) was something that multiple people requested after I've posted the NekiStorage patch. I couldn't in a million years have figured out how to do it, if it wasn't for R|ambo and his coding wizardry; you have him to thank for this, and many other cool Neki features ♥

As part of the Wall Bed features, we had to find a way to prevent other species from using it, while at the same time allowing Neki NPCs to sleep in it if they wanted. This lead to a funny situation where the Neki, unlike other species, no longer recognize the Captain's Chair as something only the player can use. "Honeybadger dun give a f***".

Enjoy ♥

0.97.6
The new "T11" ship that was added in this update is sort of a "hybrid BYOS" thingy, on which you can remove all the walls and build it out as you like! ^-^

The recipe for the ship is identical to the T10 one. You can safely upgrade your existing T10 ship (or skip T9/T10 and go straight for T11), as all existing hardcoded ship walls will become hazard blocks and everything on them should stay as it was.

The Neki Scientist Coat and Scientist Sleeves are worn by the Neki Snow Scientist NPCs, but you can also craft them out of the vanilla Scientist Pants and Scientist Chest respectively, at the Neki Wheel.

0.97
For the first time since I've discovered Starbound over 2 years ago, I've played the Peacekeeper/Bounty missions to the end!

In this update I've added some Peacekeeper-related stuff
- A Neki Peacekeeper Uniform, with a different appearance for each gender
- Peacekeeper-related scan descriptions, for items and tiles
- A few lines of Neki-specific Peacekeeper dialogue

The Neki Peacekeeper Uniform is craftable at the Neki Wheel, and you can check their appearances out on one of the new screenshots I've added.

I've added 3 new variants of existing clothes, the Nokini, Noughtie and Stripless.
The new variants are "lighter" and intended to be used with the SFW versions of Neki - NekiSFW, NekiFloofSFW, Fuzzier NekiFloofSFW and others. The SFW versions allow the outfits to be smaller without "NSFW pixels" poking through :)

The new SAIL, Leiya (character by TeksFox), is a long-time work-in-progress, and is currently cosmetic - she uses vanilla SAIL lines, as she doesn't have her own ones yet.
I hope you like her :)

P.S. - If you don't, you can revert to the vanilla SAIL by subscribing to Scripted SAIL and NekiChips, going to the SAIL interface, clicking the little settings wrench on the top right, crafting a vanilla Apex SAIL chip and installing it.

0.96.8
In this one I did my best to make it so that players won't miss out on features.

It's no longer required to install another mod to gain access to the T9 and T10 ships (although it still works the same if you do), since the Neki can now craft T9 and T10 upgrade items directly by hand, but they're locked behind fairly endgame items:
T9 Upgrade - Requires the "Thank You" postcard you get at the end of the story
T10 Upgrade - Requires the Neki Lavish bed, which is.. yeah
Hopefully this will ensure that with enough effort, anyone can get an endgame ship :)

The Neki Pod is now placed on the ship from the start, and isn't just laying around in the locker (how would it realistically fit in there, anyway..?), but is unpowered till you reboot the system. The lighting around the ship is now more fitting to the sinister nature of the ship itself, and the broken light is a hint on what to interact with for new players, as the Neki Tech Console never had a questmark above it.

There's also a few new thingies like a craftable 64-slot Neki Storage Locker (full of shinies!), a broken spotlight you can craft "by hand" out of a regular spotlight (the light is less boring this way!), 19 new hairstyles based on Acid's Hair Mod, and a larger Neki Wheel crafting window.

0.96
There's a new Neki NPC type - the Neki Snow Scientist.
They fell asleep in a crate full of lab uniforms, only to find themselves in a remote, frozen outpost upon waking up. Most of the occupants of the outpost don't seem to mind their new "colleague" too much, and the Neki is just carelessly enjoying the unexpected change in scenery.
The Neki Snow Scientist can give you hunt quests and may eventually offer to join your crew as an Engineer or Mechanic.

0.95
The first Neki tech, the Neki Hops!
A huge thanks to R|ambo for being super nice and patient with me, and doing most of the Lua work, I would never have made it without them! I'm not a 100% sure about the way it's currently balanced yet, so your feedback with regards to it and suggestions would be most appreciated ♥

A huge thanks to R|ambo for creating the scripting magic that made the Hops tech possible ♥

I enjoyed playing The Starforge mod, and made some scan descriptions for it while playing. I probably didn't get very far, but I've added scan descriptions for over half of the objects in it so far.

The Neki Wheel is now used to craft all of the Neki animated and static clothes, as well as the pillows, instead of the regular Spinning Wheel/Sewing Machine.

0.93
A few things:
1. The Neki head rotation should be supported from StarExtensions version 1.7.14.
2. The new tooltips interface is part of a yet-unreleased mod called StarFactory, and were added to Neki with the author's permission.

0.92
There's now an actual Neki NPC, who can become your crewmember!
The Neki Miniknog Agent is a guard-type NPC that spawns in Apex (Miniknog) cities, around mansions. They'll give you various hunting-related vanilla quests (no crafting or any of that stuff), at the end of which they'll offer to join your crew as a soldier type. Be careful not to piss them off - they're a bit more lethal than the normal Miniknog guards. As crewmembers though, they'll be able to keep up with you even when you sprint.

The Neki Agents wear custom Miniknog Neki T6 Armor, and have a chance to drop it when killed. It is also a racial Neki T6 armor, craftable at the Separator table.

Finally made a separate crafting station for all the older, non-animated clothes in the mod. According to some of the feedback - I should not remove them completely, but they made the crafting window look like a confusing mess. They're now in a separate crafting station called the "Neki Wheel", craftable at the Inventor's Table, just like the regular Spinning Wheel.

I've also added another animated dress - the Neki Robe. Unlike all the other animated outfits, this one has no underwear, so it will flop around revealing everything. Keep that in mind if you're streaming, or make sure you have NekiSFW installed if you do :3

And lastly, it seems like I forgot to add the T5 Rapid Claws recipe previously... so I did now, and you can finally craft them properly.

0.91
I've added two new ship upgrades, Tier 9 and Tier 10.
To get the ships the "legit" way, you'll have to also subscribe to the Tier Nine Ships mod, which will let you get the T9 license from the pirate trader at the Outpost, and the T10 after completing the storyline. If you've already completed the story before this update, then you can upgrade to T10 by using this admin command:
/upgradeship '{\"shipLevel\" : 10}
The Tier 9 and Tier 10 ships allow for up to 14 and 16 crew members, respectively :)

0.90
I haven't changed anything about the ship's layout in order to not ruin people's existing characters/savegames, but it looks a bit different now; the new Starter Codexes are there to tell the story behind it :3

There's now an auto-completing quest that gives you both of the new Neki Protectorate uniforms and the sleeves (as well as the Neki Paws) as soon as you pick the vanilla outfit from your locker at the academy; if you skip the intro, you'll receive the items upon spawning on your ship. I've noticed on streams that players kinda miss the paws/claws existence entirely if they're tucked away in the ship's locker, so this way you can have pawing sessions straight away even if you miss them!

0.89
It took a while, but I've finally managed to turn a few bits of the Neki backstory into something that would resemble readable codexes! You can find some of them in Apex labs and test facilities, and a few others around Apex apartment blocks.
Only 14 exist as of now, but there are many more planned :3

The scan descriptions should now cover around half of all scannable objects in vanilla, and should cover most of the stuff you'll come across through the end of the Apex mission. The rest of it (Glitch, Human and Novakid stuff) will be added later.

The new T5 Rapid Claws can be crafted instead of the regular T5 Vicious Claws, but cannot be upgraded to elemental types yet; they require a Speed Augment in addition to all the usual mats. The T5 Rapid Claws have lower damage, but a significantly higher attack speed, which applies only when you hold both Right and Left mouse buttons while using them, so make sure you craft a pair in one go!

0.87
I've actually (finally) started playing Starbound proper!

Some advice:
1. If you're not using NekiFU, use Race Traits!
2. Use a bow! Farm those Poptops for all the claws they've got!
3. Don't count on the Paws invulnerability effect, it's not permanent anymore.
4. The T3 Claws are easier to make than they seem at first, do it as soon as you can
5. (If using Race Traits/FU) Get. Some. Armor. The squishiness is real...

There are now unique scan descriptions for about 1/3rd of all in-game objects, and should cover most of the stuff you'll encounter till the end of the Hylotl mission.
I'll add more as I go :3

0.86
A major change to how the Neki weapons are crafted, you can now craft them all by hand, so there's no need to go looking for them at crafting stations, however Tiers 3 and higher require additional ingredients that can be crafted at the Furnace, same for the T5e (elemental) versions. Additionally, when you start out as a Neki - don't forget to grab the T1 Paws from the ship's locker, as you can now fairly easily upgrade them to T2 Nails right on the starter planet and have a capable weapon right away!

I've finally gotten around to somewhat sorting out the mess that was the hairstyles by re-arranging the way they appear at Character Creation by similarity, which should make finding the one you are looking for a little easier while creating your Neki :)

Neki Female Hair[i.ibb.co]
Neki Male Hair[i.ibb.co]

0.85
Finally completed the Tier 5 weapons! ^.^
There are 5 new claws in total - a T5 upgrade of the previous T4 claws with new animations and sounds (no more squeaking on T5, srs biznis now >:3), and four upgraded elemental versions of it.
The elemental versions will be quite difficult to obtain as they require some fairly rare items (in addition to the T5 claws themselves), but hopefully you'll agree that they're worth it once you make them :3

0.80.3
I'm sorry for pushing out an update so shortly, but this was kinda urgent :x
The 3 new poses I've added to Neki were being applied globally to all races, which some players have mentioned they'd rather not be the case, as it would also apply the poses to NPCs throughout he universe. I had to separate the poses into an optional modlet before any more NPCs in their universes appeared that way.

I've also added a few other small sprite fixes and changes as well, and the few haircuts I've finished working on - I figured it wouldn't hurt to add a few now. There are many more to come, but those will be added with a future update.

I've also disabled the non-animated clothing items recipes for now, I plan on re-working them into animated outfits in a future update. The ones you've already crafted will remain, but the new animated versions will probably require a fresh craft :)

0.80
A major overhaul of everything, this one took what felt like an eternity...

There's a new clothing category called "Sleeves" now, for now there's only one sleeve style there ("Angel"), but I'm working on a few more and will add them soon :)

The Nekini now requires the Top and Bottom to craft, and those are crafted separately. Notice that you can wear either of those without the other, allowing for more clothes combinations.

I'm well aware that the amount of hairstyles may be somewhat overwhelming and makes it a bit difficult to find the one you want during character creation. In a future update, I plan on re-arranging the order in which they appear in a way that would group similar styles together and make it easier to choose between them, as well as removing some of the more similar ones as an option during character creation.

There are also a whole lot of Ningen hairstyles for males that I haven't finished adapting/adjusting for the Neki yet, those will also be added in the near future :3

0.78
The new furniture items added with this update are a sort of bounty hunt.
To craft them, you'll need to steal gather various artefacts and decorations from Starbound's species' cities and dungeons and put them all together.

The pillows are craftable at the Sewing Machine (upgraded Crafting Wheel), the Pillow Pile and the Lavish bed are made by the Neki by hand, they know the recipe :)

0.76
The new furniture is craftable by hand by any Neki, same as the claw weapons.
The Neki Long Claws (Tier 4), while powerful, also cause enemies to bleed:
- Organic mobs "bleed" slime in vanilla (and actual blood in FU)
- Robots "bleed" oil/tar
Both of these slow you down considerably, so be aware of that! :)

0.60
The Neki now have their own cute little unique weapons!
Every Neki starts with a pair of Paws in their locker, which can (and should) be upgraded as you go, up to Tier 3 for now. Crafting/upgrading them is done with your bare hands, and you know all the recipes from the get-go.

I'm unsure of their balance as of yet, I've given them values which made a certain amount of sense to me, but I'd love to hear tour thoughts and suggestions :3

A huge thanks to TeksFox for creating the icons for the weapons!

0.59.3
I've finally added some long-requested "clothes" for the Neki.
You can now choose them at the character creation screen. It's only one two items for now, a nightie and a strapless - but I figured it kind of fits if you start the game by waking up at the Academy - and not everyone sleeps naked :3

They're legs items, which means you can combine them with chest items from other clothes sets, but because they're animated - they may clip slightly with some armors.
Let me know what you think and whether I should make more clothes like these :)

NekiTulips is now integrated as well, so please unsubscribe from it when possible.

0.58
In this one I've fixed Starbound's vanilla bug/oversight which prevented certain NPCs (Tonauac and the Baron in this case) from using race-specific dialogue. It seems the developers originally planned on writing varied storyline quest dialogue for Starbound's races but never got around to it, leaving a single dialog option for all of them, which meant defining some variables in the NPCs behaviors was unnecessary. As a result, some NPCs have it defined (for no real purpose, as far as vanilla goes), while others just don't.

This change renders the NekiText patch obsolete and unnecessary - please uninstall it and/or unsubscribe from it at your discretion. I've updated it as well either way, to make sure it doesn't cause a crash if accidentally left installed.

0.57
I've added a client-side night vision option to the Neki.
It's about as powerful as the weakest light augment, but isn't a light source - in theory meaning that other people you play with won't see you glowing in the dark, hence only you as a Neki can benefit from it.

0.54
The included wings are now "Cosmetic", without the OP augment and EPP stats.
This is for the Neki species to not cause an imbalance on some servers just by having them installed; if you've already crafted the wings and would like to keep the stats, please add Nekify Items and craft/spawn the "Augmented" ones.
Now you can also have the stats of one pair with the appearance of the other :3

Beta4.2
I've added a "Neki Pod" item to the starting loot of newly-created Neki characters.
It's not craftable or printable, so try not to lose it, it can be quite useful!

For existing characters, you can either:
  • Create a new character and pass their pod on to your existing one
  • Cheat by spawning it, but that's no fun :3

/upgradeship '{\"shipLevel\" : 10}
The Tier 9 and Tier 10 ships allow for up to 14 and 16 crew members, respectively :)
