Go into my mod's main folder.
Then navigate to /interface/.
Delete ~nanderty_enhanced_ui_mapicons_galaxy.gui.
Done!
You have to do this any time I update the mod tho.
Also the anomaly icons will stay the same, I couldn't find away to change them without overwriting them.
P.S.: Please feel free to make a post in SUGGESTIONS about what I could change so that you would be interested in keeping the galaxy UI too.
I will most likely not separate the system and galaxy view into two different mods tho.
Also thank you for both the reply and the UI, it looks really nice. My only issue with the galaxy map really is the ship icons, they can be really hard to see unless I zoom almost all the way out. Also since you probably want input, the hexes where you click to interact with star systems seems a little off and or smaller then default. Really the ships are the big deal here ( for me) because that can lead to death, everything else is worth it for what it brings.
It "looks" soooo nice though. Your in-star-system UI is the best one I have seen, I especially like the way the health bars float over stuff so if you want to actually watch a ship battle or just take in the view it's amazing.
First of all: Thank you very much!
The clickable area of stars in galaxy view (you called it hexes) are not smaller, they can't, because it would require changing a define, which would make this mod achievement incompatible.
They are also way smaller than the indicator (which is disabled in my mod) in vanilla, which I am probably going to fix in a future version of Enhanced UI Project: Defines. For now Bigger Star Hitbox by Agamidae should do the trick.
Concerning the ship icons, I need more input, are they overlapped by other things? Do they blend in too good?
Thank you very much for your feedback!
I have just updated Enhanced UI Project: Defines to also do the same as Bigger Star Hitbox by Agamidae , read above post for more info!
The ship icons for me are both overlapped and blend in too good but that might be a personal issue, unless I zoom out to one mousescroll until max I have trouble seeing where ships are. When a large area with multiple ships is surveyed but not claimed/mined out yet especially because in that case some of the other UI elements can actually hide the ship icons. I just tested this by putting 4 science ships in random places and they were half covered by the mineral icons in a lot of cases.
I like all your other icon changes though they really tone down the clutter but ships need to be in your face style noticeable I think. I actually prefer the original ship icons on the galaxy map just because they are like 20% bigger looking and just easier to see, or at least they seem like they are, they are both an icon and a small colored box around the icon, yours is just an icon right? Like I mean it takes up same amount of space just doesn't look like it does because no boarder, so less in your face.
Anyways thanks again for replying, also this might just be a "me" issue and most people may or may not prefer your ship icons, I just know personally I need to be able to see them better, quite a few got past me in heated wars.
It sucks though because your UI looks so much better then default or then any other UI mods I have noticed yet, but I keep switching it on and off cause of the ship thing.
I probably need a screenshot, as I don't really have overlapping issues, or I only have them if I am zooming out, quite the opposite than you.
Also, on what resolution are you playing?
You are also right about the hexes ( I call them that because in the original UI when you mouse over a system a hex appears on your cursor). They show up as decent sized hexes but you're correct in that you can still only click in a tiny area in the middle by default... good call there changing that clickable area.
Also though I'm not here to complain, you put a lot of work into these and it shows. I prefer everything you changed except for the ship icons. When I say I prefer I mean I REALLY prefer them. On the other side of that though, the ship icons can be a game killer if you don't notice a few of them, and they are super easy to not notice in this iteration.
I only bought this game about 2 weeks ago but I put in close to 300 hours. I only mention that because my lack of knowledge is kind of showing in spots!
You have been super-cool though considering you have no reason to be, I appreciate it. Also I'm not trying to tell you to change anything, more people might prefer your ship icons.. I can only give feedback based on my own experiences.
First of all: thank you really much for your appreciation!
Your resolution is the key point of your issue.
Here is how UI works in stellaris:
Unfortunately I can't rescale the anomaly icons, meaning that it would look weird if everything else was scaled too much, which limits my adaptive scaling options to +/- 0.2 (meaning min = 0.8 and max = 1.2).
As soon as I find a solution to that, I might include more extreme adaptive scaling.
But until then, I can't really invest too much time into very low resolutions like yours because it's kind of a niche.
I am always happy to receive feedback and critique, don't worry!
I have no issue following the ship icons in the default UI. In yours they are smaller ( again they might not actually BE smaller, but they have no glowing boarder so they look like they are) , a different icon ( science and engineer are fine, I can find those when I need to by clicking on right side menu), and don't have a boarder around the icon. I have to reallllly look for them using your UI where as on default they are easily spotted. I don't have a problem understanding your army shield icons I just have a much harder time seeing them then I do seeing the default combat ship icon.
I have no other complaints.
I don't know what you're talking about though nothing takes up 1/5 of my screen height or width by itself. The resolution is fine as far as I can tell, I mostly use that resolution btw because I'm using a 44" HDTV as a monitor and that's it's native resolution.. your icons are the same size as the default icons. The size isn't what bothers me, just they don't pop out at you like the default ones do. The default ones actually look like a little ship BUT the boarder around the ship is bright, making them stand out super well. Yours uses a different ( but fine ) icon, but your icon has no neon-green bright boarder around it.
What I guess I mean is in default you can quickly glance at the screen and you see ships, they look like ships and they pop out at you because they have a neon green boarder that's brighter then the rest of their graphic, with yours I have to start squinting.
Is there a file I can remove like in your first suggestion that will just remove your ship icon changes and leave everything else the same? Even if I do have to do it for every update?
The only reason I care is because I love everything else about your UI and default is craptastic comparatively, ESPECIALLY if you actually want to take in the views, which I do!
I don't really understand why they made everything look so beautiful and then covered a bunch of it up with green bars by default.
Above numbers were just an example to why I think you have more overlapping issues, which leads to the ship icons needing to stand out.
Unfortunately I won't change the icons for now, as all changes making them stand out more would not fit the style and I don't have much time rn.
I add this to my to do list tho.
For reverting that change only you cannot just delete a file, but have to change two values in ~nanderty_enhanced_ui_mapicons_galaxy.gui.
Specifically:
remove "nanderty_enhanced_" in lines 730 and 751, it will probably look scuffed tho.
Also this change will be reverted whenever I update the mod.
A screenshot showing your issue visually is still highly appreciated for planning future changes.
Or don't, it's not a huge deal. But if you want em i'll put in the effort to try to explain better.
